10 Comments on "Celebrity Jeopardy! Game Recap – Thursday, January 19, 2023"

  1. The innocent and witty repartee among the contestants regarding their socks made me laugh out loud,…and I really needed that today!

  2. Those FJ responses are the stuff of legends. Absolutely hilarious. Too bad the game was uninteresting, but the trivia is not why this is a thing, is it?

I got the Final easily (fell for the trap in the regular Jeopardy episode, though, which ruined my perfect week).

    • Actually, I think Brendan’s “the Green Mill” was a GREAT response if you fell for thinking it had to be some kind of club. It was a very popular speakeasy in Chicago during Prohibition and Al Capone was a regular there and had a dedicated booth where he could see both the front and back doors. Given that the clue has to be true and thus Al Capone DID play the banjo, it is not inconceivable that he could have played there in off-hours or private occasions. [I don’t mean that I think “the Green Mill” should have been judged a correct alternate response, just kudos to Brendan for coming up with it!]

    Ohhhh… “Rock” Islanders… NOW I get it 🤦
When I heard the clue, I was wondering if I was in Bizarro world, or The Upside Down or something. Al Capone played banjo? In a band?? What th…???
    Needless to say, I didn’t get that “W” I was hoping for😕😅

    Current FJ streak: 2L

  4. I had actually correctly Blind Guessed “Alcatraz” when the category was presented, since it was the first “Notorious Place” that came to my mind.

My mother (with whom I was watching the show tonight) thought it had something to do with Rock Island, Illinois. Rock Island is one of the “Quad Cities” straddling the Mississippi River with a pair of cities on the Iowa side and a pair on the Illinois side; a few hours away from Capone’s Chicago. But I can’t really think of any “notorious places” in Rock Island

  5. I recall BJ mentioning Stand Up 2 Cancer, but I can’t for the life of me remember either of the other 2 talking about the charities that they were playing for. Maybe I just wasn’t playing close enough attention.

    • You weren’t paying enough attention 😆. However, I thought none of the three of them gave all that descriptive of an explanation. Cari said that she actually works with a sister organization and I don’t think Brendan was successful in making Soccer Without Borders sound that useful. But Stand Up 2 Cancer has had fund-raising TV specials for several years, so maybe you were more clued-in to notice what BJ was saying about it.

  6. Bill Vollmer | January 20, 2023 at 12:13 pm |

I was surpised that no one tried to make a joke about the “Big Bang” and Mayim. Was alos suprised that no one got the Dr.McCoy clue in the Johnny Gilbert categoy. I thought “Bone’s” protestations were (in) famous.
As for this game’s Final Jeopady, heaing/reading Capone and a band called the “Rock Islanders,” immediately thought Alcatraz.

    • I am with you about Dr. McCoy. The contestants might just not be the right demographic, but I thought this had become a long-standing joke [a meme?] that some younger and/or non-Trekkie people would recognize. However, they may have been thrown by his other quotes being a single solid statement instead of a medley(?). [I would double-check my memory on the other clues, but the archive of this game is not posted yet.]
