Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 22, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Images of 2024) for Tuesday, April 22, 2025 (Season 41, Game 162):

Item in common to a January 1889 self-portrait & several of those attending the 2024 Republican National Convention

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Kyle Dunn, an actor & director from New York, New York

Kyle Dunn on Jeopardy!

Sara Grady, an instructional coach from Nashville, Tennessee

Sara Grady on Jeopardy!

Liam Starnes, an undergraduate student from Barrington, Illinois (2-day total: $52,802)

Liam Starnes on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Yesterday’s Jeopardy! saw UChicago undergrad Liam Starnes—younger than Ken Jennings’s original run on the show (Ken wasn’t the only person feeling old upon hearing that statistic)—become a 2-day champion following a come-from-behind victory in Final Jeopardy. Today, he faces off against Nashville’s Sara Grady and New York’s Kyle Dunn.

While two wins likely won’t be enough to see Liam through to the Tournament of Champions—he’ll very likely need a third—there’s a 75% chance we’ll at least see him again in Champions Wildcard, even if he loses today. (Feel free to prove me wrong on this count, Culver City.)

One further thing about today’s game that I am absolutely looking forward to: a BEFORE & AFTER category in Double Jeopardy.

Correct response: What is a bandaged ear?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Around Christmas 1888, Vincent Van Gogh removed his own left ear during a period of mental instability. A week after leaving hospital in January 1889, the famous “Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear” was painted. Following the assassination attempt against Donald Trump during the 2024 election, many delegates to the 2024 RNC also sported bandaged ears.

This is also clearly going to be a Final Jeopardy clue conveniently forgotten about by most of the American right wing the next time they accuse Jeopardy! of being “too woke”.
