Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Space) for Wednesday, January 10, 2024 (Season 40, Game 88):

Since it has caused spacecraft to malfunction, a region called the South Atlantic Anomaly is known as this area “of space”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Denise Carlon, an attorney from Seaside Heights, New Jersey

Denise Carlon on Jeopardy!

Michael Vallely, a program analyst from Cleveland, Ohio

Michael Vallely on Jeopardy!

Roy Camara, a grocery specialist from Crawfordsville, Florida

Roy Camara on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Today’s Second Chance semifinal will be taking place between Roy Camara, Michael Vallely, and Denise Carlon. Both Roy and Michael had incredibly impressive first performances, both putting up over $25,000 going into Final Jeopardy, but neither being able to pull out a victory. Meanwhile, Denise herself went into Final Jeopardy just $100 behind Ray Lalonde! One of these three players will be joining Rotimi Kukoyi in the week’s final, with that winner advancing to Champions Wildcard in February.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The term “Bermuda Triangle of Space”, referring to the South Atlantic Anomaly, was popularized in the early 2020s thanks to an episode of Space’s Deepest Secrets referring to the area. The South Atlantic Anomaly is where the Earth’s magnetic field is its weakest, and this anomaly, located over central South America and the South Atlantic Ocean, wreaks havoc on computers and technical systems on spacecraft, much like the Bermuda Triangle in the North Atlantic wreaks havoc on seagoing vessels.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Wednesday, January 10, 2024 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Tex & The City; National Animals; 3-Syllable Words; You Get Nothing! You Lose!; U.S. Money; One-Man Band)

Denise got off to the best start, picking up 5 correct responses. Roy had a chance to really make hay when he found the Daily Double just before the first break; unfortunately, January 10 has apparently been a bad day for betting clues, as Roy fell to $0. Roy definitely had the hang of the signalling device, though—he got in first 16 times in the round, and that clawed back most of his deficit by the second commercial break.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Denise 5 correct 0 incorrect
Michael 2 correct 1 incorrect
Roy 7 correct 2 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Denise had a large viewing party before trivia night at her local pub.
Michael moved to Cleveland six days before taping.
Roy has a wife who went into labor the day of his audition.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Denise 6 correct 0 incorrect
Michael 7 correct 1 incorrect
Roy 15 correct 2 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Denise $4,400
Michael $4,000
Roy $3,000

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Word Histories; Books & Authors; International Affairs; World Of First Names; Celebrities’ Favorite Movies & TV Shows; One Man, Banned)

Denise went for the top row, which came back to hurt when Roy got to both daily doubles back to back, going from $8,200 to $22,600 in the span of about a minute! However, he didn’t turn the game into a runaway, thanks to a pair of incorrect responses in WORD HISTORIES!

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Roy 28 correct 5 incorrect
Denise 13 correct 1 incorrect
Michael 10 correct 4 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 0 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Roy $24,200
Denise $13,600
Michael $3,200

Roy and Denise both got Final Jeopardy correct; Roy is a finalist!

Tonight’s results:

Michael $3,200 – $0 = $3,200 (What is Hi Cleveland!)
Denise $13,600 + $10,401 = $24,001 (What the Bermuda Triangle?)
Roy $24,200 + $3,001 = $27,201 (What is Bermuda Triangle?) (Finalist)

Roy Camara, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the January 10, 2024 game.)
