Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Leaders) for May 9-10, 2026 (Season 41, Game 76):
In 2009 this leader gave Barack Obama the book “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Jenifer Miller, a freelance web developer from Ann Arbor, Michigan
Sean Maguire, a commercial real estate manager from New York, New York
Laura Faddah, a manager from Memphis, Tennessee (2-day total: $17,000)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Laura Faddah’s run continues in the weekend encore presentations; this weekend’s game features Laura going for victory #3 against Sean Maguire and Jenifer Miller.
Going into this game, I had predicted that Ken was going to comment on Laura’s unorthodox wagering strategies; I was pleasantly surprised when this game originally aired that Ken only commented that Laura’s second game was only a “come-from-behind” victory.

This is certainly a Final Jeopardy where the circumstances have changed significantly between the original airing and the rerun airing!
Back in 2009, at the 5th Summit of the Americas, Hugo Chávez (who served as the President of Venezuela from 1999 until 2013) gave a Spanish-language copy of Open Veins to Obama; the analysis of the impact of European settlement, imperialism, and slavery in Latin America, written by Eduardo Galeano, has been important as a reference for Latin American socialists.
Of course, this game originally aired in December 2024, about twelve and a half months prior to the Trump administration’s intervention in Venezuela, in which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured, transported to the United States, and indicted on charges related to narcoterrorism.

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the May 9-10, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:
Game Recap:
In a game that was a struggle for both of our challengers—we saw four unplayed clues, a sum nearly unheard of in this day and age, 16 Triple Stumpers, and 11 incorrect responses, Laura Faddah got all three Daily Doubles correct and cruised to a runaway victory that also saw Jenifer fail to make Final Jeopardy.
Final Jeopardy saw a question mark from Sean and a guess of Fujimoro (probably thinking of the Peruvian Alberto Fujimori) from Laura—I’m guessing if this clue played this week, we might have seen it go better from 0-for-2, considering Venezuela’s recent newsworthiness. Next week will see Laura go for win #4 against Harry Jarin and Jenna Hayes.
Scores going into Final:
Laura $15,600
Sean $4,200
Jenifer -$2,000
Tonight’s results:
Jenifer -$2,000 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Sean $4,200 – $13 = $4,187 (Who is ?)
Laura $15,600 – $2,400 = $13,200 (Who is Fujimoro?) (3-day total: $30,200)
Game Stats:
Laura $15,000 Coryat, 22 correct, 3 incorrect, 39.62% in first on buzzer (21/53), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 8 rebound opportunities)
Sean $4,200 Coryat, 10 correct, 2 incorrect, 16.98% in first on buzzer (9/53), 3/3 on rebound attempts (on 9 rebound opportunities)
Jenifer -$2,000 Coryat, 8 correct, 6 incorrect, 26.42% in first on buzzer (14/53), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $17,200
