Here’s the Pop Culture Jeopardy Final Jeopardy (in the category Provocative Props) for Wednesday, January 22, 2025 (Season 1, Game 23):

The most requested topic for debunking by “Mythbusters” was inspired by an 8-foot-by-3 1/2-foot piece of wood used in this film

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Episode 23 features Those Darn Etruscans, French Toasters, and Thought Patrol. I don’t really have many pre-game thoughts for this episode. I get the sense that the show may have ordered these knock-out round episodes to frontload show alumni near the start of the run in order to draw viewers in, who will then watch keep watching these later episodes because they’re fun!

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Could both Jack and Rose have survived on the 8-foot-by-3 1/2-foot piece of wood used in Titanic after the ship sank? According to a 2012 Mythbusters episode: only had they thought to tie Rose’s life jacket underneath the board to assist in buoyancy—otherwise, the wood would not have been able to support their combined weight, and they both would have died. But yes, as Colin said on the show—it would be possible.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Here’s the recap for Season 1, Episode 23:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Playing God; Gifts For Superfans; Ex Marks The Song; You Won’t Find It On A Map; I Hate My Job; A “Little” Category)

After an opening segment that went one clue longer than normal, Those Darn Etruscans rebounded from a Daily Double miss to lead at the interviews. Scores were Those Darn Etruscans 2,000 French Toasters 1,200 Thought Patrol 1,200.

Statistics at the first break (16 clues):

Those Darn Etruscans 6 correct 2 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Thought Patrol is named after Carlo & Bella’s trivia team; Bella has screened prospective dates by making them take the Jeopardy! Anytime Test.
French Toasters are big fans of French Toast, but are both Canadians and fans of the “Actually…” podcast.
Those Darn Etruscans are fans of “that other Jeopardy”.

Although Clint of Those Darn Etruscans said “Berry” on a clue about HBO’s “Barry”—and It was somehow accepted by the judges against past precedent—they were in good position after 30 clues. Thought Patrol led on the strength of 11 correct responses overall.

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Johnny Gilbert Spits Hot Fire; Let’s Get Married!; The Bad Place; TV Home Improvement; Are They A Throuple?; Started On Law & Order, Now We’re Here)

I can tell you right now: one category from this one is going to go viral—not only because Johnny Gilbert, but also because all five clues in the category were stand-and-stare Triple Stumpers, none of the nine players even chose to take a guess in the category. Those Darn Etruscans got both Daily Doubles correct—DD2 on a great guess—to lead going into Final.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Those Darn Etruscans 21 correct 4 incorrect
Thought Patrol 16 correct 4 incorrect
French Toasters 9 correct 4 incorrect

Scores going into Final:

Those Darn Etruscans 14,200
Thought Patrol 9,000
French Toasters 1,200

Those Darn Etruscans and French Toasters were both correct in Final; Those Darn Etruscans advance to the next round!

Tonight’s results:

French Toasters 1,200 + 1,200 = 2,400 (What is the Titanic?)
Thought Patrol 9,000 – 9,000 = 0 (What is Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of)
Those Darn Etruscans 14,200 + 3,801 = 18,001 (What is Titanic?) (Quarter-Finalist)

Those Darn Etruscans, today's Pop Culture Jeopardy! winners (for January 22, 2025, episode 23.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I do appreciate the French Toasters’ willingness to guess on the last clue of Double Jeopardy; had they been correct, they themselves would have been within striking distance going into Final Jeopardy.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Those Darn Etruscans 14,200 Thought Patrol 9,000 French Toasters 1,200)

Those Darn Etruscans: Standard cover bet over Thought Patrol is 3,801. (Actual bet: 3,801)

French Toasters: Bet whatever you like—you’re going to need a pair of overbets to have any chance of winning. (Actual bet: 1,200)

Thought Patrol: You have to bet at least 1,400 to have a chance of victory. If this was the regular show, I’d suggest capping at 6,599 to keep French Toasters locked out, but you can go all in here—there’s no monetary difference between second and third. (Actual bet: 9,000)
