Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Week 3 of Pop Culture Jeopardy continues with this matchup between Mojo Casa Housemates, Set & A Run, and Mission: Impopsicle.

One thing that I’m sure other viewers have noticed: the clue text in this has a bit of a blue-to-purple gradient to it. Being used to the deeper blue of the mothership clues, it makes me feel like I’m viewing the gameboard at an unusual angle—but I also acknowledge that I am likely just so used to the main series so as to find it unusual.

3 Comments on "Pop Culture Jeopardy Recap – Wednesday, December 18, 2024 (Episode 8)"

  1. Just to provide a point of reference for the commenters – only Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, and Matt Amodio have ever matched or beaten a single-game Coryat of $37,800. And collectively, they only matched or beat that number six times.

Well done to Mission: Impopsicle on an absolutely UNBELIEVABLE performance today.

    • This gives rise to a question that Andy is best equipped to answer: for Coryat scoring purposes, how is the Triple Play handled?

It has occurred to me that it might be necessary to adjust the total of Mission: Impopsicle downward for proper comparison with standard game Coryats, as the maximum possible Coryat in a PCJ game may be higher than 54,000. (This is much the same as doubling the Coryats of original-dollar-value games.) It has also caught my attention that the “Coryat lost to incorrect responses” line in other recaps is absent from PCJ ones.

As a related aside: might it be worthwhile to include the Triple Plays as other miscellaneous statistics? Like Daily Doubles, they have different mechanics than regular clues.
