Warning: This page contains spoilers for the June 4, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category American History) for Wednesday, June 4, 2025 (Season 41, Game 193):

He recalled that before an 1831 revolt, he had a vision of “white spirits & black spirits engaged in battle”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Joey Quismorio, a product manager originally from San Antonio, Texas
Joey Quismorio on Jeopardy!
Jay Borsom, a trivia content creator & DJ from Plainfield, Illinois
Jay Borsom on Jeopardy!
Stella Trout, a software engineer originally from Houston, Texas (1-day total: $28,800)
Stella Trout on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Stella Trout is your new Jeopardy! champion, picking up $28,800 yesterday in a dominant victory. Today’s challengers are Joey Quismorio and Jay Borsom; Stella will very likely need to keep winning in order to get a postseason spot, assuming that the format for 2026 is unchanged. And, to be fair, considering the news yesterday regarding the show’s streaming rights—with non-exclusive rights going to Hulu and Peacock—I can’t see how there’s enough money for any streaming-exclusive games that would result in more postseason games being produced. It would thus not surprise me at all to see a second consecutive season of fans who, if they’d kept their mouths shut, might have seen some of their favorite players back on television in a full postseason.

Jay is also organizing a Guinness World Record attempt this weekend, hosting trivia for 36 hours straight—the current record is 34 hours, 35 minutes, and 45 seconds.

On the Jeopardy! Masters side of things, the remainder of the series will be airing as a two-hour season finale this evening on ABC and CTV2, with Semifinals #3 and #4 airing at 8:00 and 8:30, with the two-game total-point final airing at 9:00. While CTV’s program guide does not currently reflect this at publication time, I have received word that CTV2 will be airing the whole two hours this evening.

Correct response: Who is Nat Turner?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

In August 1831, Nat Turner very famously led a slave rebellion in southeastern Virginia, after believing that revolution was the best way to get the brutality of slavery recognized. It was generally unsuccessful overall, with the government increasing restrictions on Black Americans over the coming decades.

To me, the year and revolt were enough for me to get a correct response on this Final Jeopardy clue. I’ve also personally tried to learn a bit more about this event in the last 20 years or so, after I misinterpreted the lead-in on a tossup about Nat Turner to be about sports, thereby earning a “‘Worst’ Incorrect Response” prize at a University of Michigan MLK quiz bowl tournament in 2005. We’ll see how it plays in studio.

10 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, June 4, 2025"

  1. sadly, this is a name that I did not know – I’ll have to read up on him and better know my history.

  2. Honestly, the scarcity of play-in opportunities for the ToC doesn’t bother me one way or another. While “Yay, more Jeopardy” is always fun, I think last season’s postseason was just the right length. Heck, if you told me one of the SCC weeks would be sacrificed for an extended CWC, I wouldn’t complain either.

As for Final, “1831” is very quickly becoming a reflex to Nat Turner. History textbooks — since in the US you have to be able to sell nationwide — try to tiptoe around the darker parts of the slave era and the buildup to the Civil War, which is a shame because we need kids to know why Never Again is so vital.

  3. I immediately went with Nat Turner, but the more I thought about it, Black Hawk worried me. I 100% knew the early 1830s were the correct time period for the Black Hawk War, and I was slightly less certain about Turner. Given “Black” is in his name and the name of the war, the vision of white spirits and black spirits fighting seemed like it could plausibly fit.

I would have stuck with Turner because the word “revolt” seemed to apply better to his rebellion than to the Black Hawk War, but that was some compelling neg-bait!

  4. I went with John Brown instead of Nat Turner.

    • I did, too, because it has been a long time since Nat Turner was in my quickly accessible memory, but I was pretty sure 1831 was too early for it to have been Brown, so I expected I was wrong.

  5. Jeff,

Because you can’t be home tonight to watch Masters, consider getting a free trial of Hulu (starting on Thursday since network shows are not on it until the next day anyway) in order to pick up the missed two hours of Masters. [Also, these episodes could be watched faster if you had a ‘No Ads’ subscription, but there are no free trials with ‘No Ads’.]

    • Hi Lisa,

I will definitely look into that! By the way, I made it home at 9:40 p.m. last night and was able to watch the final 20 minutes of Jeopardy Masters. 🙂

My US History classes covered the Nat Turner Rebellion pretty thoroughly as a precursor to the War Between the States, aka the Civil War. Thanks to those classes, I was able to pull this one from my memory bank.

  7. Regarding the signoff — I watch on a different ABC affiliate, and it also did not mention Masters in Ken’s signoff. Most likely, ABC’s late schedule change has something to do with that.

  8. Enos Williams | June 5, 2025 at 12:20 am |

I’ve read “The Confessions of Nat Turner” by William Styron, so I had no problem with this one.
