Here’s the Pop Culture Jeopardy Final Jeopardy (in the category Film Dedications) for Wednesday, January 15, 2025 (Season 1, Game 21):

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Our final game of the day features Dyon Boys, The Adley Clutchmans, and Buggsy Mogues; Buggsy Mogues features recent 4-time regular-flavor champion Ryan Manton, as well as his wife Lauren.

One thing that I am finding as I watch through these games: I believe that Colin Jost is an absolute master of cringe comedy—and I think people’s opinions of his hosting are potentially viewed through the lens of how they feel about such a genre.

Correct response: Who is Richard Linklater?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Richard Linklater was inspired to write his Before trilogy of films by a one-night encounter with Amy Lehrhaupt in Philadelphia after the two met in a toy store in 1989. Unfortunately, Lehrhaupt never saw any of the films, as she passed away in May 1994 in a motorcycle accident.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Here’s the recap for Season 1, Episode 21:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Never Won The Emmy; Memorable Tweets; Kid Characters’ Government Names; On-Screen Product Plugs; Duet & Trio Songs; Hear Me “Out”)

The important clues stayed hidden, but there were 15 correct responses in the opening segment. Buggsy Mogues led with 6,600 to The Adley Clutchmans’s 2,800 and Dyon Boys’s 1,000.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Buggsy Mogues 9 correct 0 incorrect
The Adley Clutchmans 4 correct 0 incorrect
Dyon Boys 2 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Buggsy Mogues are huge Muggsy Bogues (and Space Jam) fans.
The Adley Clutchmans are all Baltimore Orioles fans.
Dyon Boys are “some combination of father and brothers”. (Colin’s words.)

In a round where the only stumpers came on the Triple Play, Buggsy Mogues continued to lead.

The Adley Clutchmans 8 correct 1 incorrect

The Adley Clutchmans 3,200

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Twin Films; Dance Lessons; Models; A Game Of Pool; Lgbtq+ Directors; Welcome To The Vanessa-Sance)

Controversy abounded in Double Jeopardy as the Adley Clutchmans were permitted to wager 5,000 points after uttering just the word “Five”. This permitted them to be within 50% of Buggsy Mogues going into Final Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Buggsy Mogues 22 correct 0 incorrect
The Adley Clutchmans 19 correct 3 incorrect
Dyon Boys 13 correct 4 incorrect

Scores going into Final:

Buggsy Mogues 26,400
The Adley Clutchmans 17,400
Dyon Boys 6,200

Thankfully, the Daily Double wagering controversy was rendered moot by all three teams getting Final Jeopardy correct. Buggsy Mogues advances.

Tonight’s results:

Dyon Boys 6,200 + 6,200 = 12,400 (Who is Linklater?)
The Adley Clutchmans 17,400 + 9,001 = 26,401 (Who is Richard Linklater?)
Buggsy Mogues 26,400 + 8,401 = 34,801 (Who is Richard Linklater?) (Quarter-Finalist)

Buggsy Mogues, today's Pop Culture Jeopardy! winners (for January 15, 2025, episode 21.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Once again: it is completely inappropriate for the show to permit Daily Double wagers to be abbreviated, especially because “Five”, or even “five hundred” are plausible and permitted wagers. This was a major and egregious mistake by both Standards & Practices and the show’s judges and this rule absolutely needs to be clarified and codified going forward.
  • I am pleased that Buggsy Mogues knows what to do when you win: stand still for the cameras and smile a bit so it’s really easy for me to take a good screenshot. (I don’t feel nearly as strongly about this, though, as I do the above paragraph. If you’re happy at winning, celebrate! You do you!)
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Buggsy Mogues 26,400 The Adley Clutchmans 17,400 Dyon Boys 6,200)

Dyon Boys: You can’t win unless two teams bet too much. Bet whatever you like. (Actual bet: 6,200)

The Adley Clutchmans: You can go all in here because there’s no difference between second and third here and you need to be correct to win. However, if this was regular play, I’d be suggesting a bet between 600 and 4,999. (Actual bet: 9,001)

Buggsy Mogues: Standard cover bet today is 8,401. (Actual bet: 8,401)
