Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, January 15, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the January 15, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

This site also has recaps for today’s three Pop Culture Jeopardy episodes. If you’re looking for those recaps instead: Episode 19 (The Three Seasons, A Tribe Called Quiz, Ladies of the 80s); Episode 20 (Trivia Tuesdays, The Challengers, The Quiztina Aguileras); Episode 21 (Buggsy Mogues, The Adley Clutchmans, Dyon Boys). Finally, you can find the recap for today’s episode of Celebrity Jeopardy! here.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Books of the 1960s) for Wednesday, January 15, 2025 (Season 41, Game 93):

In 1962 the New York Times said the release of this controversial book “presages a noisy fall”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Aiden Orzech, a teacher from Thornhill, Ontario, Canada
Aiden Orzech on Jeopardy!
Jay Fisher, a government relations manager from Lisle, Illinois
Jay Fisher on Jeopardy!
Drew Goins, a journalist from Honolulu, Hawaiʻi
Drew Goins on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Champions Wildcard continues today with Drew Goins, Jay Fisher, and Aiden Orzech. Drew had some very dominant performances last week during Second Chance—if he can keep that up, we might see Drew waltz right in to the Tournament of Champions. Jay’s the only 3-time champion in the field whose participation here was a result of Lisa Ann Walter’s very late withdrawal from the ToC field, while Aiden won a good chunk of change in his two victories.

Remember as well that our players don’t know that wild card scores thus far have been low as they’ve been sequestered; this could make things more interesting as well.

On July 22, 1962, John M. Lee of the New York Times wrote an article of the controversy surrounding the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, detailing how the pesticide industry was very upset with the book, and how it detailed its harms to society. In the article, Monsanto’s Tom K. Smith had the gall to even state that “the preponderance of evidence” indicated that chemical pesticides had not taken a significant toll of wildlife. (Yeah. Sure. Whatever.)

Over the years, this book has been a favorite subject of Jeopardy; remembering that might be crucial to coming up with a correct response today.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Wednesday, January 15, 2025 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Not On My Watch; Fictional Females; ____ & ____; Pop Culture People; Spittin’ Science Facts; Direction To Perfection)

After 7 of the first 10 clues were Triple Stumpers, Drew found the Daily Double. Getting it correct, he led after 15 clues. At the interviews, the scores were Drew $2,200 Jay $200 Aiden -$200.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Drew 5 correct 2 incorrect
Jay 2 correct 1 incorrect
Aiden 1 correct 1 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Aiden has lots of support back in Ontario.
Jay went locally viral because of Ken’s comments on Illinois.
Drew had to purchase non-Hawaiian wardrobe options for the show.

Drew’s strong play continued as Jay found his stride. Unfortunately, Aiden struggled to find his.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Drew 12 correct 3 incorrect
Jay 8 correct 1 incorrect
Aiden 3 correct 1 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Drew $5,000
Jay $2,400
Aiden $400

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: The 19th Century; Shades Of Red; Tearjerkers; State Capitals; Fiddlin’ Around; Everything From B To Y)

Jay found both Daily Doubles while Drew picked up 15 correct responses in the round. Jay was in a position where he was probably close to what he thought was a safe advancement score when he found DD3 and risked just $1,800 in a spot that would have seen a much bigger bet had wild cards not existed.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Drew 27 correct 3 incorrect
Jay 20 correct 2 incorrect
Aiden 3 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 26 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Drew $23,400
Jay $15,400
Aiden -$2,400

Drew got Final Jeopardy correct, but the fact that wild cards exist meant that both Jay and Drew were perfectly happy with their score up to that point, so they both bet $0. Drew is an automatic semifinalist, while Jay does lead the wild card standings right now.

Tonight’s results:

Aiden -$2,400 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Jay $15,400 – $0 = $15,400 (What is Lolita?)
Drew $23,400 + $0 = $23,400 (What is Silent Spring? (Hope this works!)) (Semi-Finalist)

Drew Goins, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the January 15, 2025 game.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • The fact that wild cards exist basically took what would otherwise have been an incredibly epic endgame battle and turned it into a complete anticlimax. I don’t understand why Reddit wants wild cards like this as a thing in the 2020s.
  • I don’t think Drew would have risked too much by betting $2 instead of $0, on the off chance Jay chose to bet $8,001.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

15 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, January 15, 2025"

  1. I recall President Kennedy mentioning this book in a press conference. Nevertheless the answer didn’t come to me this morning.

  2. “Presages of a noisy fall” took me down the rabbit hole of a Humpty Dumpty type fall, not the autumn season – guessed “The Man In The High Castle” by PKD, which happened to be from 1962. Oops!

  3. I just went straight to controversial books. I knew Catcher in the Rye was too early. I guessed Lord of the Flies which it turns out also was too early.

  4. Andy, when you say, “wildcards like this” do you have a different proposal for how the show should do wildcards or are you against the concept entirely?

  5. I missed how many of the non-winners go through for the Wildcard. Is it the Top 2, Top 3, or? scores?

  6. I’m not sure if I really understood today’s Final Jeopardy clue, but somehow my brain said Slient Spring. Maybe it understood the word “presages” even though I don’t recall hearing it before. Maybe it was “a noisy fall”. Doesn’t matter, I got it, as did today’s winner from our 50th state.

  7. I guessed A Clockwork Orange, but I was sure I was wrong. I was happy it was from 1962.

“Noisy fall” led me straight to “Silent Spring.” As a naturalist and conservationist, I’ve been acutely aware of “Silent Spring” ever since it was published back in 1962, so it was an easy get anyway.

p.s. In case anyone was wondering where I’ve been the past few days (not that anyone would), I went to the Emergency Room on Thursday with pancreatitis caused by gallstones. I wound up having my gallbladder removed. Missed being here for a few days; happy to be back.
