Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Week 7 of Pop Culture Jeopardy! begins with a match between “Ladies of the 80s”, “A Tribe Called Quiz”, and “The Three Seasons”. I don’t recognize any of the nine players, though I have noted an inability to recognize faces well on this site in the past.

“It’s better you got it out of the way now”. The Ladies of the 80s found the Daily Double immediately, but a teamwork issue, where Patricia knew it but Mary couldn’t get her head around the fact that “Weird Barbie” could actually be a response, put them behind the 8-ball early on in this one. However, they rebounded very well from a moment that couuld have been a harbinger of things to come—they picked up 7 correct responses in the opening segment to lead after 15 clues. The scores were Ladies of the 80s 2,800 A Tribe Called Quiz 1,400 The Three Seasons 1,000.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Kudos to Ladies of the 80s for rebounding well after the first Daily Double; that could have been the undoing of a large number of players or teams, but they didn’t seem to let it affect them.
- I wish the writers had added “but not seiso” to the Doja Cat clue where she was referred to as a “‘Say So’ rapper”.
- Double Jeopardy needed a category titled “Here’s The Dril” where it was nothing but Dril tweets.
- Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: The Three Seasons 16,000 Ladies of the 80s 10,200 A Tribe Called Quiz 8,000)
Ladies of the 80s: Bet at least 5,801 to cover A Tribe Called Quiz—but being that you have to be right to win, and there’s no bonus for coming second, you might as well go all in.(Actual bet: 10,200)
A Tribe Called Quiz: You have to bet at least 3,600 to have any shot of victory—however, because you have to be correct in Final to win, you might as well go all in. (Actual bet: 8,000)
The Three Seasons: Standard cover bet here is 4,401. (Actual bet: 4,500)

The “Ladies of the 80s” may be even less close sisters after that ‘Weird Barbie’ fiasco 😬. [BTW, I “got” it.] Shouldn’t teams go in with the plan that if the “leader” (who is the only one allowed to respond in certain situations) doesn’t know the answer, they should repeat ANYTHING told to them by a team member?
[I am wondering if Mary immediately thought of Post Malone (but maybe even couldn’t think of his name) and her brain was just too busy mulling that over to take in what Patricia was saying. I also wonder if it might have helped if Patricia had said to her “Weird Barbie from the hit Barbie movie” to either get Mary into the right context or just prove Patricia knew what she was talking about, rather than having come up with something crazy. But Patricia might have said that (or “played by Kate McKinnon”) and it still didn’t get through to Mary.]
I had already been questioning why the show doesn’t put the “leader” in the middle so the other two can speak to them more easily, but this emphasizes that. Also, another hint for teams that are going to be on Jeopardy! (if there are again): get your ears professionally checked because lots of people don’t hear out of one ear as well as the other and don’t even realize it!
She just couldn’t hear Patricia in all the chaos of the Daily Double from the jump.
The sisters are still close, but Weird Barbie might randomly get thrown back in Mary’s face occasionally.
I actually did think that it looked a bit like that, but I assumed that if Jeopardy! invented a version in which team members would need to confer, they would have instituted procedures to enable that rather than allowing a noisy atmosphere. Shame on the producers(?).
And another team strategy thought: agree that if a non-leader KNOWS the correct response (not just an educated guess and especially not a wild guess), that they will kick the leader in the shin to indicate “don’t think about it; just repeat what I tell you, but in the form of a question”.
