Here’s the Pop Culture Jeopardy Final Jeopardy (in the category Television) for Wednesday, February 5, 2025 (Season 1, Game 29):

Inspired by a joke in a 2004 movie, it debuted on August 8, 2017 with programming that included darts & disc golf

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Quarterfinal #2 today is contested between The Stage Names (Episode 5), On The Bubble (Episode 7), and Personality Hires (Episode 3). Personality Hires were dominant in the knockout round, and considering their own Jeopardy! experience, it would not surprise me if that domination continues in this round.

Now a full-time FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) channel in Canada and the U.S., The Ocho was originally a joke in the 2004 movie Dodgeball. When ESPN debuted it as a way to fill programming time during the summer on ESPNU in 2017, it proved to be very popular with viewers.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Cartoon Reboots; Say The Sound; Celebrity Booze; Clear “I”s; Full Arts; Can’t Lose)

On The Bubble 7 correct 0 incorrect
Personality Hires 7 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Personality Hires thinks the best part of competing was the friendship, even though Zach went on one 6/10 date with someone who was a fan of his on the show.
On The Bubble thinks the missed Daily Double in the knockout round was able to focus them.
The Stage Names are Colin Jost’s favorite love triangle.

The Personality Hires picked up 8 correct responses after the break to re-take the lead.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Personality Hires 15 correct 1 incorrect
On The Bubble 8 correct 0 incorrect
The Stage Names 9 correct 0 incorrect

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Small-Screen Insults; Poetry In Music; Mind Your Manors; Unalived In Film; A Real Funny Guy; It’s A Bar Or Bat Mitzvah!)

Personality Hires started out by picking up 6,000 on a second swept Triple Play. After getting DD2 incorrect, the search began for DD3, with The Stage Names and On The Bubble making a number of clue selection errors. (Seriously, not going to be in the category of the first one, nor is it likely to be at the 400 level). As it turned out, Personality Hires found DD3 and got it correct to lead going into Final Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Personality Hires 29 correct 3 incorrect
On The Bubble 17 correct 0 incorrect
The Stage Names 17 correct 0 incorrect

Scores going into Final:

Personality Hires 23,000
On The Bubble 18,800
The Stage Names 15,800

Every team got Final Jeopardy correct; this makes the Personality Hires semifinalists!

Tonight’s results:

The Stage Names 15,800 + 15,795 = 31,595 (What is ESPN 8 “The Ocho”?)
On The Bubble 18,800 + 18,798 = 37,598 (What is ESPN 8 The Ocho?)
Personality Hires 23,000 + 14,601 = 37,601 (What is ESPN 8: The Ocho?) (Semi-Finalist)

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Personality Hires 23,000 On The Bubble 18,800 The Stage Names 15,800)

The Stage Names: With where the scores are, you should bet between 7,201 (just in case Personality Hires bet 0, as rare as that would be) and 7,400 (staying ahead in case of a Triple Stumper). (Actual bet: 15,795)

On The Bubble: You can’t both cover Stage Names and win a Triple Stumper. Bet at least 12,801—but you might as well go all in to force Personality Hires to get the math right. (Actual bet: 18,798)

Personality Hires: Standard cover bet is 14,601. (Actual bet: 14,601)
