Warning: This page contains spoilers for the March 17, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Historic Names) for Tuesday, March 17, 2026 (Season 42, Game 137):

This name of a Grand Duchess of the 20th century comes from a word meaning “resurrection” in Greek

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Aidan O’Connell, a wastewater treatment operator from Henderson, Nevada
Aidan O'Connell on Jeopardy!
Carman Nareau, a founder from Oakland, California
Carman Nareau on Jeopardy!
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (2-day total: $26,566)
Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

2-day champion Jamie Ding dominated the proceedings in yesterday’s game, putting up a $32,000 Coryat score (one of the highest ever) but lost a lot of money on an incorrect Final Jeopardy. It will be interesting to see if losing $30,000 has any effect on his gameplay today; certainly, challengers Carman Nareau and Aidan O’Connell hope that it does.

One thing that I think Jamie needs to do, though, is make sure he finds the Daily Doubles. His buzzer seems to be on fire at the ends of rounds, but finding timing earlier in rounds will be crucial to denying his opponents the extra chances at finding the Daily Doubles.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Deriving from the word “anastasis”, the name Anastasia was given to the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, who was killed by the Bolsheviks in July 1918. However, she became known posthumously due to the efforts of impostor Anna Anderson, who lived until 1984 and was not conclusively determined to be an impostor until DNA testing was done in the 1990s. Anastasia’s life was also the basis of the 1997 historical fantasy film of the same name, that was nominated for several Oscars.

Anastasia has been a topic that the writers have gone back to a few times over the years; I feel as though this is going to be easier for longer-term fans, but we shall see.

Game Recap:

History was not just set, but absolutely demolished on this episode of Jeopardy!; Jamie, in just his third appearance on the stage, picked up a Coryat score of $42,400—surpassing Ken’s record from June 10, 2004 by nearly a full 10%. Having the runaway locked up when Aidan found DD3, there was nothing at all he could do with the last Daily Double.

A correct Final Jeopardy—and a more conservative wager—brought over the $50,000 mark for one day and brings him to win #3. He’ll go for win #4 tomorrow.

Scores going into Final:

Jamie $48,800
Aidan $4,300
Carman $600

Tonight’s results:

Carman $600 – $599 = $1 (Who is Rosario?)
Aidan $4,300 – $0 = $4,300 (Who indeed)
Jamie $48,800 + $2,434 = $51,234 (Who is Anastasia?) (3-day total: $77,800)
