Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 1, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.
Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category The Calendar) for Wednesday, April 1, 2026 (Season 42, Game 148):
Mark Twain wrote the quip that on this day of the year, “we are reminded of what we are on the other 364”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
George Thomas, a former engineer from Mount Prospect, Illinois
|
Jessica Frankenfield, an event planner from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
|
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (13-day total: $360,000)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Welcome to April 1, the day where you need to be skeptical about everything you see on the Internet. Today on Jeopardy!, though, Jamie Ding goes for victory #14 as he battles challengers Jessica Frankenfield and George Thomas. Top seed in the 34th Tournament of Champions is at stake in this one as well; if Jamie wins more than $13,999 today he passes Harrison Whitaker for that top spot.
Being April 1, this is a day where Jeopardy! sometimes likes to put easter eggs into the game; if there are any, I will be detailing them. If you don’t want to be spoiled on them, I’d recommend waiting to watch the show before reading any recaps.

99.9% of the time, I can trust that Clue of the Day, as published in The New York Times, assuming that its category doesn’t match one of the main game categories (I do check against J!6 every morning), is Final Jeopardy, However, when the correct response to Clue of the Day when published is “What is April Fools’ Day?”, I have to be at least partly skeptical. A different Clue of the Day could be an April Fools joke in and of itself, or the April Fools joke could be the fact that the correct response is “What is April Fools’ Day”.
Speaking to the clue itself, this is a relatively famous quote from Mark Twain himself with regard to April 1, and how it was his way of quipping that humanity is often filled with foolishness.
As to how it will play? If the players remember our air date, it might be much easier for them.

Game Recap:
Jamie Ding had one of his most dominant performances, picking up all three Daily Doubles, getting a combined $21,000 on them, and leading by more than $50,000 entering Final Jeopardy.
Jamie went for six figures in Final Jeopardy, but was incorrect, losing a record $44,200 (the record is for “most money/points lost in Final Jeopardy”). He’s still a champion, though, and goes for win #15 tomorrow.
Scores going into Final:
Jamie $55,800
Jessica $5,200
George -$1,800
Tonight’s results:
George -$1,800 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Jessica $5,200 + $800 = $6,000 (What is April Fools Day?)
Jamie $55,800 – $44,200 = $11,600 (What is Labor Day????) (14-day total: $371,600)

Game Stats:
Jamie $39,200 Coryat, 43 correct, 0 incorrect, 64.91% in first on buzzer (37/57), 3/3 on rebound attempts (on 6 rebound opportunities)
Jessica $5,200 Coryat, 7 correct, 3 incorrect, 15.79% in first on buzzer (9/57), 0/1 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities)
George -$1,800 Coryat, 4 correct, 4 incorrect, 12.28% in first on buzzer (7/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $42,600
Jamie Ding, to win:
15 games: 73.733%
16: 54.366%
17: 40.085%
18: 29.556%
19: 21.793%
Avg. streak: 16.807 games.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- It does appear as though the only April Fool’s reference in this game was to the fact that Final Jeopardy was a famous quote regarding the day from Mark Twain.
- $39,200 is tied for the second-highest single-game Coryat score of all time, tied with Ken Jennings from June 10, 2004, and trails only Jamie’s $42,400 from March 17.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
