Hey everyone! Andy’s back, and I think I’m glad I wasn’t blogging last Friday’s episode. That wagering in Final made me quite sad.
Claudia Gray makes her third appearance — the challengers: Ed Hanlon and Fran Frederick!
J! round categories: WHAT’S APENNINE, YACHTS, HOME ALONE?, ADD A LETTER, CELEBRATIONS OF THE MONTH, MEDICAL HISTORY
Both Ed and Fran both got off to an excellent start against Claudia; Fran saw the first Daily Double, on the final clue before the first break under CELEBRATIONS OF THE MONTH $600. Holding $3,200 to Ed’s $2,000 and Claudia’s $200. Wagering $1,000, she saw the following: Freedom of Information Day & National Pi Day (the math kind). With apologies to my friend George, who given the slightest opportunity will rant about how much better tau is over pi as a circle constant – Fran gave the month of Tau Day as opposed to Pi Day and fell to $2,200 at the first break.
Ed, talking about his animated Christmas Cards where he puts Santa et al in movie spoofs, and said he did Fargo one year: I hope he didn’t wish his friends a chipper Christmas…
Even though it was YACHTS, it always disappoints me to see clues go uncovered (I blame the lengthy MEDICAL HISTORY all-video category for that one…) – Fran’s gets were closer to the bottom of the board (including ADD A LETTER $1000: Add a letter to a word for a social engagement to get this Italian poet) and thus, the scores at the end of the J! round had Fran leading at $5,200, Ed with $2,800, and Claudia $1,200.
DJ! round categories: ANCIENT MOVIES, 1960s BESTSELLERS, ALTARED STATES, AN ARMY OF OLIVERS, “AY”, and SIT ON IT
Fran found the first Daily Double quickly this round, under ANCIENT MOVIES $1200 (on the round’s 5th clue). Holding $6,000, Ed had $4,400 and Claudia $2,400. She bet $2,000 and saw the following: Ye Gods! Sea monsters, Medusa & Hades are but a few of the villains in this 2010 remake of a 1981 film. Fran, who seemed to have difficulty on these solo clues, gave another incorrect response and fell to $4,000.
Overall, this round was much more competitive, and it showed by the time Fran found her third Daily Double, this time in ALTARED STATES $2,000. Holding $9,600 to Ed’s $6,400 and Claudia’s $6,400, she bet $1,600 and saw the following: Shaker Heights Community United Church of Christ. Sadly, Fran would be 0 for 3 on the big clues in this game, as her response dropped her score to $8,000. I feel as though all 3 of these Daily Doubles will make their was onto this week’s poll…
Claudia slowly but surely made her way up, with gets on clues like AN ARMY OF OLIVERS $2000: Supreme Court justice nicknamed “The Great Dissenter” to hold a lead going into Final Jeopardy!
Scores going into Final Jeopardy!:
Claudia $12,400
Fran $10,400
Ed $10,400
FJ! category: WOMEN IN ENTERTAINMENT
FJ clue: 1 of the first 2 women in Hollywood to own a studio (according to the official bio of no. 3, Oprah)
Ed: $10400 + $10400 = $20800
Fran: $10400 + $10000 = $20400
Claudia: $12400 + $8401 = $20801
I gave the newer of the two answers, personally. Claudia didn’t quite get to Beau on the Tournament of Champions standings, I’ll give them an update on tomorrow’s blog. Claudia’ll be making her 4th appearance tomorrow as well!
Daily Doubles are but a few of the villains…
