Andy here on this Saturday; we’re going straight through the weekend here at The Jeopardy! Fan trying to catch up on the couple of days we lost earlier in the Summer Hiatus Challenge.
I’m pretty happy with how things are going for myself over at the LearnedLeague, though I feel as though that Commish has made the questions a little bit harder (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!) – at least judging by the slightly lower scoring (and fewer 9(6)-9(6) ties in the top Rundles!).
I’ve been fortunate in the respect that my opponents haven’t figured out how to play strong defense against me yet, as I’ve gotten the 3-point question on 3 of the 4 days so far (riding those points to a 2-2-0 record in spite of only 9 correct answers out of 24). Of course, that includes a 0 on Match Day 3, a day most players found to be an excruciatingly hard day. My excuse: The “gimme” (yet hardly, at only a 55% get rate) question was American-centric!
And now on with the SHC, Round 3, Day 2, and a thanks once again to DadOfTwins for all of the work that he puts into writing and organizing this!
THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO . . .
2: Appear on television, at the opening of the New York World’s Fair in 1939.
4: Serve as governor of what is now a foreign country; he was also the only former President to serve on the Supreme Court.
6: Pardon a former President; he also posthumously pardoned Robert E. Lee.
8: Not run for re-election after his first term; his successor didn’t run for re-election either.
10: Become President without ever having been a British subject; he is also the only President not related to King John of England.
POTENT POET-ABLES
3: In The Devil’s Dictionary, he defined brandy as “one part thunder-and-lightning, one part remorse, two parts bloody murder, one part death-hell-and-the-grave and four parts clarified Satan.”
6: His “Reflection on Ice Breaking” was that “Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.”
9: This author of the Rubiyat longed for “a book of verses underneath the bough, a jug of wine, a loaf of bread, and thou.”
12: In Deformed Transformed, this Romantic-era nobleman born with a deformed foot wrote, “What’s drinking? A mere pause from thinking.”
15: This Roman lyric poet who lived in the first century BC wrote in one of his “Satires” that “No poems can please for long or live that are written by water-drinkers.”
There was a good amount of controversy regarding the 6 and 8 point Presidential clues. I’m not sure of their resolution at this juncture; the Instant Replay thread gives me a headache on the best of days.

This is actually the first year I’ve kept with the SHC; most other years I’ve been horribly discouraged by being deep in the pack and just haven’t had the want to stick with it, dropping out in the middle of Week 2 or so. Having to blog about it has helped with that for sure!
Jeanie will be posting about Week 3 Day 3 tomorrow!
