Philip Tiu, an educator from Atlanta, GA (1-day total: $21,198)![]() |
Well, it certainly seems like Philip figured out the signalling device after yesterday! Also, on what turned out to be the last clue seen, he bet $19,000 on a Daily Double — and was right!
Yes, $19,000 is a record for the largest amount wagered on a Daily Double. (There was one $10,000 pre-doubled, from Bob Beers in 1988, however.)
Scores going into Final Jeopardy:
Philip $38,600
Sean $13,600
Kristen $4,000
Final Jeopardy! category: BUSINESS NEWS 2015
Final Jeopardy! clue: In July it replaced Toyota as the world’s largest automaker; in September its stock price fell by one-third
What is Volkswagen? (Kristen said Toyota)

Kristen 4000 – 4000 = 0
Sean 13600 + 5599 = 19199
Philip 38600 + 11300 = 49900 (2-day total: $71,098)
I did not get this Final Jeopardy; it was met with an “oh, of course!” upon hearing the correct response. I’m usually a lot better at the “current business news” Final Jeopardy clues, but I’d forgotten about this one!

Phillip is the MAN!!!!!!!!!
I was So Stunned, Proud and Happy for Philip Tiu Today (3/15/2016) when he wagered $19,000.00 as his Daily Double amount!!! I think the whole world, including Mr. Trebek, was caught with our mouths open and breath bated when Mr. Tiu made the wager
and won — to boot!!!
Well Done Mr. Philip Tiu!!!! You Deserve this!!
Thank you, Phil and Nola! This has been the most exciting time of my life, made all the more fun by your comments and reactions!
