Btw, Georgia and Armenia do NOT border on the Caspian Sea . Georgia borders the BLACK SEA in the west, Armenia is landlocked.
And Turkey definitively does NOT border the Caspian Sea either.
So your info above that the Caspian borders 8 countries is incorrect. It is border only by the 5 I mentioned in my reply to Dan.

Someone, somewhere, sometime predicted a win this season of under $1,000. I honestly didn’t think it would happen.
I would’ve liked a triple 0 (because such an occurrence is super rare), but I hope Manny redeems himself tomorrow with a big enough win to compensate for today’s.
It’s hard to come up with a wronger answer than Fran’s: not a country, doesn’t border the Caspian Sea, doesn’t border the Persian Gulf. She literally would have been closer if she had guessed her own name (only a letter off).

Azerbaijan IS a country, capital: Baku, and it DOES border on the Caspian Sea…..and the Caspian Sea is bordered by 5 countries: Iran,Russia,Turkmenistan, AZERBAIJAN and Kazakhstan.
I’m blaming Google for that one.
Most importantly it is corrected.And if you google the Caspian, it DOES give you the correct countries, and in the very first paragraph. I checked it out….
And if you google “Caspian Sea countries”, the card at the top of the search gives you eight countries. Stupid Google.
Okay, but Tibet, which Fran guessed, is not a country (unless she was trying to make a Free Tibet political statement, which I suppose is valid), it doesn’t border the Caspian Sea, and it doesn’t border the Persian Gulf.
Carlos guessed Azerbaijan, and you’re right, he at least managed to hit two out of three, as did Manny with Iraq (which borders the Persian Gulf, but not the Caspian Sea).
I just found it amusing, given that Fran’s name is one eraser mark away from being the correct answer, that she went with Tibet.
If someone had to win with a $1 today, I wish it was one of the challengers. It would’ve been hilarious on tomorrow night’s show to hear Johnny Gilbert announce the returning champions’ one day cash winnings total $1
I liked when Johnny announced $200. Someone around Scott Lord’s reign won that.
Shortly after Scott’s run – July 29, 2015, Colby Potter won with a $200 total. Prior to this game, that was the lowest winning total since the doubling of clue values, also achieved by 2009 ToC winner Dan Pawson in his seventh win on January 4, 2008.
It is wild that when someone wins just one buck a day.
Off Topic: In prior seasons, during the closing credits the three players would be shown speaking to Alex Trebek in the area in front of the contestants’ podium. The exception to this was when one of the players had a mobility issue.
However, as of late, the three players have all stayed behind the contestants’ podium, where they are approached by Alex Trebek.
Does anyone know a reason for this change?

Probably just a style choice. Maybe to prevent potential issues with disabled contestants. Having them stand in front seemed a bit awkward sometimes anyway.
When the Trebek version started in the 1980s contestants would walk to the podium when introduced, rather than already be there, so it’s not as if changes to how the show begins and ends is anything new.
It also seems to me they changed the podiums a bit so the privacy screens rise between the contestants and drop after Final Jeopardy. I don’t remember them being automated before (I assumed a stagehand put them in at the commercial break).
Has there ever been a game when all three contestants finished with $0? What happens under that circumstance? Is no one invited back for the next game? Are all three invited back? Or is only the defending champion invited back?

I take it if there were a three-way tie at some dollar amount >$0, then all three contestants would be invited back.

Great. By following your link, I was led to a You Tube video of The Jeopardy! Fan Live Panel (episode 11). Seeing and hearing you discuss Jeopardy! was most instructive. Now that I am aware of these videos, I will make it a point to view other episodes on You Tube.

I feel bad for Fran; she played a great game and had the bad luck of running straight into a prisoner’s dilemma situation.
Fran played a GOOD game; Carlos had a slightly higher Coryat (and made better use of his DJ round DD than she did of hers), so it’s hard to argue that she outplayed him. Also, after Carlos negged on the cellphone question, Fran should have refrained from buzzing in and guessing on the rebound; by getting it wrong, on what turned out to be the last clue of the game, she fell BACK into the Prisoner’s Dilemma situation. And there would have been no functional difference in her having an $800 vs. $400 lead after DJ. (Of course, if Fran had a $400 lead going into FJ, we don’t know whether Carlos would have bet small, thereby winning the game on the TS, or made the suicide wager.)
