(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Three Italian cities in the north of the country, known throughout most of the last millennium as powerful city-states, are Venice, Florence, and Milan; all about 250 kilometers from each other. Milan has been a major center of European business and trade for most of this time due to its proximity to many of the other major centers of the continent. As was mentioned in the clue, the Viscontis and Sforzas ruled for centuries, with the Viscontis ruling from 1277 to 1447, and the Sforzas then ruling until 1535. Following the death of Francesco II, the city fell into the rule of Philip II of Spain.
In studio, the clue played about as straightforwardly as I thought it was going to when I originally saw it back in April.

Game Recap:
This game was pretty much all Bryce from start to finish, with the defending champion taking a lights-to-flag victory. Unfortunately for Connor, he never was in positive territory after an incorrect response on clue #2 and a missed Daily Double. Bryce found the other two Daily Doubles in the first four clues of Double Jeopardy, splitting them and taking a runaway lead going into Final Jeopardy.
Next week’s encore presentation features Bryce in search of victory #3.
Scores going into Final:
Bryce $18,800
Kristen $6,600
Conner -$600
Tonight’s results:
Conner -$600 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Kristen $6,600 + $2,190 = $8,790 (What is Milan? (Hi, Dad! <3))
Bryce $18,800 + $5,000 = $23,800 (What is Milan?) (2-day total: $39,200)
