Correct response: What is Archie Comics?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The Andy Hardy movies inspired MLJ Magazines (the three founders were Maurice Coyne, Louis Silberkleit, and John L. Goldwater) to create a relatable, normal person as the headliner for a comic book. Thus, Archibald “Archie” Andrews was created in 1941. Archie became popular enough by 1946 that the company changed its name to Archie Comics at that point.
Of course, the famed Archie comics series is currently being adapted for television with the CW series Riverdale, starring KJ Apa as Archie. (I have it on pretty strong authority that KJ Apa’s girlfriend at the present time is a bit of a Jeopardy! fan herself, so I wonder if she’ll get this Final Jeopardy correct?)

Sigh – I was thinking super heroes, so I said D.C., reasoning that Marvel wouldn’t be any super hero’s first name.
On a personal note, Archie comics might have cost me some college scholarship offers. I was a talented swimmer in high school, but when college coaches asked my high-school coach if I was smart, my coach responded, “I don’t know. At swimming meets, all I ever see him reading is Archie comics.”
See, I specifically said Marvel because I knew that Captain Marvel was a thing.
I was also thinking Marvel for the same reason, but what threw me off was I thought Marvel Comics didn’t take the name until much later, and Capt. Marvel isn’t a teenager, but a kid who turns into an adult (and is now known as Shazam since Marvel started using the Capt. Marvel name for someone else). But Archie never occurred to me either until the reveal.
I knew it wouldn’t be DC, since they used to be National Comics, and adopted the DC name from its popular line Detective Comics, where Batman debuted in 1939. (And in looking it up just now I was surprised to learn that DC Comics didn’t become the official name until 1977).
For the record, Marvel Comics began as Timely Comics and took the Marvel name in 1961 (Marvel Comics being the name of the first book from Timely in 1939).
In case anyone hasn’t seen this:
And again : another new champ, 1/2 dozen clues left…
Wishing Alex Trebek a speedy recovery from his brain surgery…just saw report on ABC news…encouraging to see him talking about it himself. I like him a lot. I wonder who the guest host will be during his leave of absence?
I don’t think we’re going to see a guest host. There’s enough episodes in “the can” that Alex has a lot of time to recuperate if he needs.
Bummer – was really pulling for Sean. Let’s go Brandon next week…
The best place to be on Jeopardy this week has been the middle podium. 4/5 for the week.
When are we going to have a repeat champion?
Eventually.
I’m getting a lot of comments on one point in particular.

How many days has it been without a repeat champ? 11 or 12? Because if it’s 12 I believe it’s the second longest streak
The record is 14. Second place is a two-way tie at 11; One of said streaks was ended by superchampion Stephanie Jass.
Didn’t Keith Williams place the mark at 15
Brandon deserves recognition for a brilliant FJ wager; just enough to cover Claudia, and assuming Sean would bet at least 4K.
Yes!
Another note:
The show has traditionally treated “Mighty Ducks” and “Ducks” as equivalent. Same with “Rays” and “Devil Rays”.
Comments unfairly implying that the wrong person won are not allowed here.
Initially, I thought this was a blatantly obvious FJ answer and could not believe any of the three would get it wrong. After some contemplation, I realized that I had grown up with comics, and continued to collect up until about 20 years ago. So of course to me, the answer/question was easy. Once again proving how crucial the subject matter is to success on Jeopardy!
Indeed. That’s what my wife keeps telling me! Just because I happen to know the answer doesn’t mean it’s a no-brainer!
