Correct response: Who is (Vasco Núñez de) Balboa?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
In 1513, Vasco Núñez de Balboa became the first European to lead an expedition to have reached the Pacific Ocean from the New World. After founding the settlement of Santa María la Antigua del Darién in 1510 on the Caribbean Sea side of Panama, Balboa led the expedition across the Isthmus of Panama to first sight the Pacific Ocean (then known as the South Sea).
Today, many parks and streets in Panama are named after Balboa, and even the country’s currency is the Panamanian balboa.

Good for Michelle, though I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen someone win three straight competitive games by wagering “small” in FJ.
Sarah McNitt comes to my mind with her $4000 wagers in her first 3 games, all of which were somewhat close going into Final.
Thanks! I wasn’t familiar with her. That’s back when I was still working (overnights) and didn’t get to see much of Jeopardy!
Lucked out AGAIN. Michelle is not on the ToC list yet since she has less money than Wes (51.196). She needs to win a 4th game.
If Rebecca had been right instead of Niraj or Niraj had gotten the 2 DD right (swing of 12.800), Michelle would have lost.
I guessed Balboa right away. The year was right and it sounded like the isthmus of Panama.
And $46,693 USD equals… 46,693 PAB. (The balboa is pegged 1:1 to the U.S dollar, also an official currency of Panama.)
