Correct response: What is Brownsville, Texas?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
The fort at the original location of Brownsville, Texas was originally named Fort Texas, but was renamed to Fort Brown after the start of the Mexican–American War, and an incident where the fort’s commander, Major Jacob Brown, had a cannonball hit his leg, dying three days later.
It entered the news in 2018 as Casa Padre, the largest juvenile immigration detention center in America, is within its city limits; Casa Padre is where many children are being held in custody as part of the Trump administration policy of separating immigrant children from their parents.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Eric was on the wrong end of some absolutely correct but painful judgement calls. He said “numistacist” instead of “numismatist”, and gave the wrong winning amount for “Pyramid” (which is “incorrect extra information which turns a correct response incorrect”).
- I have mixed thoughts about today’s endgame. On the one hand, it feels like Eric shuld have avoided the $400 clue until the Daily Double was found in 13-LETTER WORDS. On the other, it really feels like the producers have been actively trying to avoid unplayed Daily Doubles this season. Considering how dominant Eric has been when he wants to be on the buzzer, it almost felt like a case of “I want to earn as much money as I can before the Daily Double”, which does have the effect of keeping Eric’s Daily Double wager as low as possible. That being said: for normal players who do not appear to have Eric’s buzzer dominance, it’s probably much better to go after the Daily Double.
- Effective in first on buzzer stats: Eric 40.00% (22/55), Mitch 43.64% (24/57), Alex 16.36% (9/55).

Brownsville Texas. I learned something new. are there colorful named cities ? Blacksburg Blue Ball, amarillo, greenville, orangeburg etc?
White Salmon, WA
The Oranges in NJ
Alabaster, Alabama
Today Alex staff was wrong. Eric was right. Maybe I heard the clue wrong. The coin collectors magazine since 1888 is The Numismatist. Alex counted Eric wrong stating it is Numismatic. ANA or American Numismatic Association publishes The Numismatist.
David:
Eric said “numistacist”, not “numismatist”. That’s why he was ruled incorrect.
Eric Had “home advantage” being from Texas. Probably why he was the only one to get Final Jeopardy right.
Birgit:
Possibly, but in his interview, he did say he’d just moved there.
But in any event, Eric still would have won had he gotten that wrong.
Yeah I was watching and thinking he could just say “Pyramid” and leave it at that. I don’t know if he felt Alex was prompting him for more info, and that’s why he offered the extra info, but as I understand it, the show has always been called “Pyramid” with the dollar amount almost like a subtitle.
I agree!!! But oh well!!!
Enjoying watching you play, Eric! I auditioned in Austin in December of 2017, were you in Austin then?
No. I was still in Maryland. I tried out last fall in Memphis after having to ask them change my location from Philadelphia.
Your Final J! wager tonight was very smart, you would have won even if you’d gotten it wrong. Keep it up! (I realize these shows are already in the can for some time, and you can’t comment on future happenings, but I’m really enjoying you too!)
The weird thing is that the Donny Osmond version is called just “Pyramid”, which complicates things a bit.
Even weirder, my mom’s coworker told her that she thinks I look like Donny Osmond…coincidence??? meaningless???
Are you a little bit country or a little bit rock ‘n roll?
Seriously though, I watch news obsessively and never heard Brownsville mentioned as the site of detention centers. Of course I’ve heard of the city but couldn’t think of anything to answer. Great job coming up with that one, Eric!
fantastic final jeopardy……. unfortunately, i only went through more exciting colors in my mind, and i doubt i’d have gotten it if it’d thought of brown.
probably would have got it if someone told me it started with brown. but that’s not realistic
It looked like Trebek was looking at Eric for more info after he answered “Pyramid”. I blame Trebek for Eric missing that question….
