Correct response: What is the Maginot Line?

Did you know that you can now find game-by-game stats of everyone, including Austin Rogers, who has won 10 or more games on Jeopardy!, here on the site?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

The Maginot Line was built by the French in the 1930s as a way of deterring an invasion by Germany, by way of hoping to slow an invasion enough to allow a counter-attack. Named after the French Minister of War at the time, it turned out to offer the French a false sense of security, as the Germans first bypassed it via the Low Countries in May 1940, and then found the line’s weakness in the Ardennes Forest. A rapid attack via the Ardennes ended up encircling Allied forces, requiring the Dunkirk evacuation and significantly weakened French defenses. The Nazis took Paris by mid-June 1940.

Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to Alex Trebek’s preferred charity. (The de facto alumni association is currently inquiring with the show in order to determine Alex Trebek’s preferred charity; this will be updated when that has been determined. To date, $156.34 has been raised.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Glad to see that Barton was the only one to get Final Jeopardy; the Maginot Line is covered in Canadian history classes when World War II is covered.
  • Often, “normal” wagering strategy for trailing players can be thrown out the window when a player doesn’t cover like Elaine did yesterday; this game was an excellent example of that. It almost worked out for Elaine today.
  • Effective in first on buzzer stats: Barton 33.33% (17/51), Elaine 35.29% (18/51), Evan 31.37% (16/51)
