This was a very easy FJ question. If I recall correctly, there were really no witches, but that summer was very cold and damp, and moldy crops were toxic to people’s bodies and minds, thus those weird hallucinations and behaviors. It’s going to be fun to watch the teens.
As a native New Englander, I was secretly hoping that they would ding Teagan and Ryan for not being specific and responding with just “Salem,” since there are three municipalities in New England named “Salem,” and two of them are within 30 miles/50 kilometers of Boston, but figured that they would not since it is in fact the Teen Tournament. However, upon further review, the clue said “city,” and Salem, Massachusetts is the only city with that name, as the other two are towns. Therefore, the result is acceptable.
I’m a little surprised they allowed “Salem” by itself as a correct response, rather than “Salem, Massachusetts.” Hopefully they didn’t do this simply because they were teens, as I’d like to seem them apply the same standards to teens as they do to adults.
There’s only one city in New England named Salem, Ed. All others are towns.
Ah. The category was NEW ENGLAND. I hadn’t realized that (or noticed it) when I made my post. That makes all the difference in the world. Thanks.
