Correct response: What is Guinea?

Did you know that you can now find game-by-game stats of everyone, now including Jason Zuffranieri and James Holzhauer, who has won 10 or more games on Jeopardy!, here on the site?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

Guinea (derived from Spanish, and earlier Portuguese) used to refer to the entire region on the north side of the Gulf of Guinea in Western Africa; the area now known as Guinea is what used to be French Guinea. The full region was subdivided in smaller areas based on their exports into many different countries, including Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Senegal, and Togo.

Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To date, nearly $500 has been raised.)

  1. Eesh. Geography is my strongest subject and I couldn’t pull this one out in time. Props to any contestant who gets this.

  2. I got it right but only by process of elimination. I knew that there was a Gulf of Guinea and the country Guinea but I also knew that Guinea had a sea coast. Couldn’t come up with something better so I went with it. It turns out that Guinea does have a sea coast but that it is on the Atlantic itself and not tucked under the big bulge of Western Africa that borders on the Gulf of Guinea. So I was right only by luck.

    • The Gulf of Guinea is still the Atlantic. It only becomes the Indian Ocean when you round South Africa to the east.Just going south it’s the Atlantic all the way to Antarctica.

  3. MacKenzie wins with her 2nd consecutive $0 FJ wager in another runaway.! Anyone know if any other winner has wagered $0 consecutively?

African geography is really tough. As a kid I loved maps but now I just can’t keep track of it all. When I watch the show I cheer when I pop out with the right answer anywhere, because I do have special areas of knowledge. I often watch repeats labeled “Daytime Jeopardy” on our sister CBS station just for the fun of it.

  5. is equatorial guinea ok? or not?

almost certain it was G but was it E G? i knew it due to oil industry.

broke a pretty cold streak on FJ……… i do find my FJ success is very streaky

  6. A triple stumper in the final as nobody knows about geography.

  7. This is my second Final Jeopardy! “skunk” of the new year. I had “Guinea” immediately. I also got the “What are the (Marquess of) Queensbury rules” correct from a week ago.
