Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Movie Settings) for Monday, January 18, 2021 (Season 37, Game 81):
In 2017 this New York City luxury store opened its first café, with truffle eggs, waffles & croissants on the menu
(correct response beneath the contestants)
As I said in my recent editorial, if you’re going to express an opinion about one host or another, I ask that you make thoughtful, reasoned arguments. A lot of your opinions on one host over another are going to be a matter of personal taste. Please also remember that a permanent host will not be named until the start of Season 38.
Today’s contestants:
Helen Belcastro, a medical device program manager originally from West Lafayette, Indiana
|
Donesh Olyaie, a strategist from Corona, California
|
Jennifer Linde, an associate professor from Minneapolis, Minnesota (1-day total: $24,800)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Jennifer took down three-day champion Lucy Ricketts on Friday, buoyed by 17 correct responses and 0 incorrect. Avoiding incorrect responses are a very underrated skill; if she can “stay clam” and avoid being incorrect, Jennifer has a good chance of defending her title.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Currently closed, the Blue Box Cafe opened at high-end New York City jeweler Tiffany & Co. in 2017, in an attempt to draw potential shoppers into the store. When it opened in 2017, it had set breakfast, lunch, and tea service for between $29 and $49. Its opening made for very easy references to the 1961 Audrey Hepburn film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- While I don’t think he would have seen the bets from Friday, Donesh’s choice not to make a covering bet (instead betting a random number) was especially risky considering that Jennifer went all-in on Friday. Donesh’s bet today is one thing that players in the audience should absolutely pay attention to and adjust their own strategies accordingly — if I were coming on to play him, any situation where I am trailing him going into Final Jeopardy would now very likely become “bet it all”.

Why do the shirts say Don’t call me at 7:30 when Jeopardy ends at 7:30? I thought this was a Jeopardy website, not a Wheel of Fortune website.
Depending on your TV market, it airs at different times. It might air at 7:00 in New York and Philly, but it airs at 7:30 in Atlanta, Washington DC, and Boston.
Jeopardy starts at 6:30pm on one channel and 7:30 on another channel. The show is on at varying times throughout the day depending on your regional local. Jeopardy is in syndication ,which has its own s.o.p.
My husband and I both think Ken Jennings is doing a great job as the first host after the incredibly loved Alex Trebek. It is very hard shoes to fill but he will, if given the opportunity, grow into the job.
I was really pleased to see that Ken Jennings is still our guest host for at least one more week. Every day he seems more relaxed than the day before. He’s got what it takes. I hope that when the time comes they will at least consider him as permanent host.
Watching Ken Jennings, I get the feeling that he doesn’t need any index cards or prompters or whatever they use. He already knows all the questions to all the clues.
As you alluded Jennifer would’ve remained champion if she went alll in like she did Friday. Unless she thought Dinesh was going to cover. Well tomorrow we’ll know if he learned from that
KJ is doing a great job! He has class and finesse and learned it from the greatest host of all time, Alex!
Think Ken Jennings is doing a GREAT job!! I remember when Drew Carey took over hosting the Price is Right and it took some time to not notice nerves. Alex Trebek & Bob Barker are without a doubt, big shoes to fill!!
KJ is doing a great job.As time passes I’m sure the nerves will dissipate.
I agree with those who say that Ken sounds like he’s moving fast, but if you saw the replays of Alex’s first few episodes aired during the pandemic, you would have noticed how fast he was talking at that point. But he eventually grew into the cadence that we knew and loved. It’s important to give Ken time. We are watching what was literally his second day of taping.
