Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category More than One Meaning) for Friday, July 15, 2022 (Season 38, Game 220):
Its definitions include containing the metallic element no. 22, pertaining to a group of Greek gods & having great strength or size
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Anmol Sinho, a tech salesperson from San Diego, California![]() |
Christopher Arns, a teacher from Fair Oaks, California![]() |
Emily Fiasco, a middle school band director from St. Louis, Missouri (2-day total: $53,201)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Emily Fiasco, the middle school band director from St. Louis, enters Mayim Bialik’s final episode of the season as a 2-day champion. Will she get to meet Ken Jennings, who returns Monday to host the final two weeks of Season 38? Christopher Arns and Anmol Sinho would certainly want to meet Ken as well!
Editorially: In protest of how tabloid entertainment papers are constantly mining Twitter to twist people’s words for their anti-Mayim Bialik hit pieces, I will not be live-tweeting mid-game statistics for this week’s games. However, I will be posting them here on this page for the sake of anyone who might still be interested in them.
On a more personal note: For the past two and a half years, I have often raised money for the MS Society of Canada through their “Gamers vs. MS” program. This July, Gamers vs. MS is running a month-long fundraising campaign called “Boss Battles.” In an attempt to raise $25,000, the Gamers vs. MS team has designed a “fundraising adventure” to defeat eight evil bosses. (Much like a Mario game might have eight bosses to defeat.) You can get more information about the program at https://www.gamersvsms.ca/bossbattles, and if you’d like to donate, you can do so via Tiltify!.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

This is a reasonably straightforward Final Jeopardy in terms of an explanation — element number 22 is titanium; the Greek gods would be the Titans. The word “Titanic” also names the famous White Star Line ship that struck an iceberg and sank on its 1912 maiden voyage.

Back when I was a nerdy kid I memorized the periodic table, but the element numbers don’t always come to mind the way they used to. I thought #22 was titanium, but wasn’t sure until I factored in the rest of the clue. The pointers were to an adjective, so ‘titanic’.
Current FJ streak: 2W
Even though I’ve had two different careers since then, my original university major was Metallurgy, so I just knew that Titanium was #22. Then as you said, the rest of the clue confirmed my answer.
I am always curious to find out HOW I know a piece of information. I never know as much as the Jeopardy contestants, but it is often funny how a piece of specific information stays in mind.
In this case, it was just my profession in which keeping the top part of the periodic table in my head is a requirement to do my job. Titanium shows up by mistake in many spectrums that we capture, and we need to sort that out.
out of curiosity, what profession is that?
Once i found titanium as an element in the periodic table I immediately started thinking it was titanic. That movie brought back great memories for me. Even then i Still keep the elements in chemistry memorized. Congrats on a big win Emily.
The clue gave you three shots at coming up with the correct response. Knowing any one of the three could lead you to the correct response. Of course, it didn’t hurt to know all three. Still, with those threee strong hints, it should be easy for most people to respond correctly, imho.
Yes, the FJs have eased up a little over the past week, and this seemed like the biggest gimme in a while.
