Victoria Has Clinched

Yes, Victoria has clinched a spot in the semifinals; basically, there’s no way at least 2 of Matt, Amy, and Mattea can pick up the 8 points necessary to overtake Victoria in the standings. Her dominating of the signaling device—her 55% success rate is significantly clear of everyone else in the field—has led to her 0-for-3 performance in Final Jeopardy thus far being immaterial. I also don’t see Victoria taking her foot off the gas even though she’s clinched at this point.

James Will Be Fine

I’m sure a few James fans are in a bit of a panic at the moment, with James being in just third place behind Victoria and Yogesh. However, he has been playing well enough, and I would be very shocked if he were not to make the semifinals at this point.

Game #1 Is Must Win—For All 3 Players

With Matt, Amy, and Mattea playing first, and there being a clear divide between the top and bottom 3 players at this point, this makes today’s game a must-win game for all 3. A huge advantage will go to the winner of this one; they’ll be on 4 points, with the 2 players behind on 2 and 1 respectively.

I Liked Amy’s Final Jeopardy Wager Yesterday

I just wanted to bring this up, because I mentioned this in the other direction last month: Amy made a standard cover bet over Matt Amodio in Final Jeopardy last night. I was very glad to see this; it gives me hope that Amy has gotten the hang of strategy, and that might be crucial in a game like Friday’s opener tomorrow night.

Game #2 Is Probably A Finals Preview

Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut, and James Holzhauer have easily been the top 3 players. Now, in the nightcap on Friday, we get to see the three of them face off against each other. Honestly, the stats have been close enough that I think it’s a little bit difficult to call. It’s probably going to come down to whoever finds the Daily Doubles. (As has the rest of the tournament, in all honestly).

In Closing

I’m really looking forward to Friday’s games. I hope you are, too!
