Warning: This page contains spoilers for the October 10, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Movies) for Thursday, October 10, 2024 (Season 41, Game 24):

More than 25 cast members from this 1990 film drama would later appear on an HBO series with a similar theme

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Cynthia Bullock, a nonprofit executive from Colorado Springs, Colorado
Cynthia Bullock on Jeopardy!
Mike Obstgarten, a test-prep coach & tutor from Henderson, Nevada
Mike Obstgarten on Jeopardy!
Mark Fitzpatrick, a content manager from Riverside, Connecticut (4-day total: $81,600)
Mark Fitzpatrick on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Will we get the 280th 5-time champion in the post-1984 era of Jeopardy, and first of Season 41, today? Certainly 4-time champion Mark Fitzpatrick hopes so! That being said, Mike Obstgarten and Cynthia Bullock both hope to stop Mark. Mike is a 2015 alumnus of Sports Jeopardy; however, Sports Jeopardy winners traditionally haven’t done very well on the big show. It’ll be interesting to see what happens today.

Many times in blink-and-you-miss-it cameos, over 25 cast members of the 1990 Martin Scorsese film Goodfellas later appeared in HBO’s The Sopranos. The link between these two series (and The Godfather) was explored in a September 2020 article by Brian Phillips of The Ringer. The Sopranos creator David Chase has also cited Goodfellas as a major inspiration, with Lorraine Bracco (Dr. Melfi) and Michael Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti) having major roles on the HBO series after appearing in Goodfellas.

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: African-American Sports History; World Leaders; The Very Old Song & Dance; Capitals Of The West Indies; Stories Within Stories; You Get An “FF”)

In a very hotly-contested Double Jeopardy round, Mike did very well in the sports category (as is to be expected from a Sports Jeopardy alum), but Mark found both Daily Doubles, doubling up through the first one, but betting just $3,000 on the second. This meant that while Mark led going into Final, it’s not a runaway.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Mark 18 correct 2 incorrect
Mike 20 correct 4 incorrect
Cynthia 7 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 1 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Mark $18,600
Mike $12,800
Cynthia $4,400

Mike put the pressure on Mark with a $0 wager, though he was correct regardless. However, Mark was correct in Final and is now a 5-time champion!

Tonight’s results:

Cynthia $4,400 – $3,000 = $1,400 (What is Star Trek? Hi Kyle & Kelly)
Mike $12,800 + $0 = $12,800 (What is Goodfellas?)
Mark $18,600 + $7,001 = $25,601 (What is Goodfellas) (5-day total: $107,201)

Mark Fitzpatrick, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the October 10, 2024 game.)

Mike: If Mark is incorrect in Final Jeopardy, he will fall to $11,599. Bet no more than $1,200 for your best chance of victory. (Actual bet: $0)

Cynthia: Bet whatever you like; you have no chance to win unless both Mark and Mike overbet. (Actual bet: $3,000)

10 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Thursday, October 10, 2024"

  1. I figured this one out by first thinking of HBO series’ (a lot less of them than movies). First I thought of Six Feet Under, but couldn’t think of a movie, so then went to The Sopranos and guessed Goodfellas (not knowing the specific year). For the record, I don’t have HBO and have never seen Six Feet Under or The Sopranos, so I don’t think that not having pay tv hurt me on this one.

    • Robert J. Fawkes | October 10, 2024 at 8:12 pm |

Same strategy here, although, I didn’t think of “Six Feet Under.” Similarly, I don’t have HBO either and have never seen “The Sopranos,” I am only familiar with it because it was so popular. Likewise, not having pay TV wasn’t a problem. One series I did see (not HBO as far as I know) was “Mad Men.” I think that was on NetFlix.

      • I never had cable, but via Netflix DVD rentals I later saw many great cable shows — “The Wire”, “Californication”, “Deadwood”, “Hell on Wheels”, “Orphan Black”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Sons of Anarchy”, “Torchwood”, “Veep”, “Justified”, “Eureka”, “Falling Skies”, “Dexter”, “Black Sails”, “Mad Men”, and “Game of Thrones”. I managed to see “Six Feet Under” and “The Sopranos” streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime several years before I got HBO Max for a year (mostly to catch the last season of “Game of Thrones” after Netflix ended DVD rental).

  2. My first thought was Dances with Wolves, but I switched to Goodfellas in the nick of time. Many people felt that Goodfellas was robbed of the Best Picture award that year.

  3. Never having watched either Goodfellas,or, the Sopranos, certainly hurt me in coming up with the correct response fo today’s Final Jeopardy. when the answer/clue was revealed I realized that nothing in my memory could help me. Now .500 for the week.
Seen a story from TVInsider saying that daily Jeopardy, (and, presumably Celebrity Jeopardy,) will benefit from a new game board supposedly having been built for Pop Culture Jeopardy, but the other two Jeopardys will use it as well. instead the 36 indivual monitors (6 category, 30 game material,) used until the start of the new taping season, 1 large monitor, probably something like the one Fremantle uses for Press Your luck, will be used instead. The Final Jeopardy monitor will be upgraded as well. This all starts will the 10/14/2024 air date game.

  4. Very difficult FJ, Never heard of either of the two shows. I guess I need to get HBO

  5. I correctly guessed The Sopranos as the HBO series but assumed the movie was The Godfather. [It is more difficult to place when a movie dates back to if you didn’t see it until during the era of VHS rentals. Also, Goodfellas is a movie that I can never remember having seen, but my husband says we did 🙃.]

    • 🙂 I guess that you’ll take his word on that, huh> 😉

      • He has a better memory about movies than I do because I tend to multitask while watching TV while he doesn’t want to do anything else except sometimes have a meal during part of it. He likes fewer kinds of movies and shows than I do, but Goodfellas would be one he would have watched and he never watches one without me watching, too. The Usual Suspects and The Godfather(s) are other such movies that we watched together that I DO remember. Reading the IMDb plot info for Goodfellas, I suspect I found it kind of boring 🤷.

  6. I just didn’t get there. I never saw an Episode of The Sopranos, but I knew it was an HBO show (never had HBO) and I couldn’t think of Goodfellas.

0 for 4 on the week and down to 4 for 24 on the season. 😮

Retro congrats on win #5 and a guaranteed spot in the next ToC. Make’s Ryan Manton’s loss to him look real legit. Might we see a rematch between them in the ToC ?

Have a great Friday all and Go Dodgers tomorrow night!
