Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Geography) for Tuesday, February 25, 2025 (Season 41, Game 122):
Located on an island, in 2016 this world capital began following two different time zones

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Ryan Long, a rideshare driver from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania![]() |
Robin Carroll, an instructional designer from Atlanta, Georgia![]() |
Ray Lalonde, a scenic artist from Toronto, Ontario, Canada![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today’s quarterfinal in the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament is an intriguing matchup: a pair of superchampions in Ray Lalonde and Ryan Long are facing off against the 2000 Tournament of Champions winner in Robin Carroll. The Unified Prediction Model does have Robin as a favorite in this matchup—she has plenty of experience already at this level—but as we’ve seen in the tournament thus far, absolutely anything can happen.
I would also like to reiterate something that I said last night on social media after listening to Inside Jeopardy. Michael Davies said yesterday, “One thing I don’t take seriously, and one thing I don’t take lightly or kindly is the abuse over choices of contestants we put on this television program.” It appears to me that hateful people are taking cues from certain so-called “leaders” in this world and hurling abuse at Jeopardy! for bringing a diverse set of strong contestants on to the program. And I am very afraid that this sort of invective is going to drive a very strong producer away from this project and towards other projects. Because who needs this sort of abuse? If Michael Davies does choose to leave—and as I’ve said, I am very afraid that he will at this point—I don’t know if many potential successors would be capable of maintaining the momentum that Michael Davies has brought to the show. Although things have not been perfect, and there have certainly been some bumps along the way, the overall health of the show, in my opinion, has improved significantly since the departure of Mike Richards. So, if Michael Davies does leave at this point, he will have left the show in a better condition than he found it—but I also think that him choosing to stay will result in better outcomes overall for Jeopardy!.

Correct response: What is Nicosia, Cyprus?

The ongoing disputes surrounding the island of Cyprus led to time-related confusion in the capital of Nicosia in 2016. When Turkey decided to stay on summer time year-round in 2016, Northern Cyprus—currently only recognized by Turkey–announced that it would be following Ankara’s lead regarding time zones. This meant that Nicosia, the capital, had half of its territory on UTC+3 and half on UTC+2, leading to large amounts of confusion, especially when GPS-enabled cellular phones got confused and displayed the wrong time zone for users.
However—and I wish the clue today had mentioned this—by the autumn of 2017 the island was once again on a unified time zone. I should say that technically the clue is correct as worded, “began” is a correct statement—though I would imagine that some will claim the fact that the show didn’t say it has ended will mislead viewers. I feel as though “briefly followed” might have been a better choice of wording here.

I am so looking forward to tonight’s match – three excellent players with one from my city [Philadelphia]!
Easy peesy lemon squeezy. Triple get today
LOL, I think you meant triple stumper. 🙂
More like difficult difficult lemon difficult, amirite?
(Full disclosure: I didn’t get this, either ☹️)
I think we might be the only one’s to find this easy Ron. 😉
The first island nation that came to my mind was Cyprus, so my guess was correct.
You said Nicosia?
As correctly predicted, someone whose name begins with the letter “R” won the game.
Interesting that none of the players seemed to interpret the clue to mean that the city was on an island nation.
I’m a big fan of Ryan and hope he gets called back for a future tournament. He does need to play more aggressively to compete at this level, though.
What tournament does the winner of this tournament get to pla in?
The winner of this tournament gets to play in the 2025 iteration of Jeopardy! Masters – alongside Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut, and James Holzhauer (the top 3 finishers from last year’s Masters), Neilesh Vinjamuri (the reigning ToC Grand Champion), and a sixth yet-to-be-announced slot saved for a producer’s pick (essentially a wild card).
I thought it was Male’, the capital of the Maldives. I believe I was overthinking, because I will say I am good at geography, but I hit my forehead with my palm after seeing the answer. An extremely difficult question, in my opinion, shown by the fact that none of them got it, although I can’t imagine guessing Paris or Bangkok. The guys were probably desperate for an answer, and they all are obviously brilliant. At least the Copenhagen guess was on the right track.
I’m sure there’s a logical reason behind Robyn’s FJ! wager, but considering she and Ryan had more than 50% of Ray’s total, it’s kinda strange she didn’t bet enough to go for the win there.
Maybe somebody on here has the answer on her strategy in terms of the wager?
I find no correct strategy to it and it’s unfortunate. She was a fun player to watch play for my first time seeing her.
This one came to me quickly, as I knew Cyprus was an island in the Mediterranean. I also remembered from history that it’s an island controlled by Turkey and Greece both and that led me to surmise a time zone issue. And Nicosia came to me at the same time.
As a side note, a friend of mine went to High School there at Tasis High School and that probably helped me too.
This is probably the first time that I have gotten FJ right when it was a Triple Stumper for the contestants.
I very much enjoyed this game and was glad to see 2 of my favorite players back in Ray and Ryan. Retro congrats to Ray on moving on to the Semifinals. So far it seems like these are going to be a great trio of Semifinals.
Looking forward to seeing fellow Packers fan Ben back tomorrow. 🙂 I have seen Claire play in High School reunion and have never seen Shane play, so I’m looking forward to it.
