Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
It’s always interesting to see what happens to the guy who beats a long-running champion, and this is where we go to close out our weekend encore presentations looking back at Season 40, with Jay Fisher, who in last weekend’s encore presentation defeated 9-day champion Isaac Hirsch. In this one, he took on Zach Eckstein and Neila Ballauer in his first title defense.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
John Irving’s character T.S. Garp, the title character of The World According To Garp, was inspired by the fact that the author himself did not know who his biological father was at the time of the book’s writing. As his mother didn’t tell Irving more information about his father, the author chose to invent a father (and circumstances behind the conception that made the mother look particularly bad.) The book, after winning the National Book Award as a paperback, was adapted into a 1982 film starring Robin Williams as Garp.

Game Recap:
In a game that saw 21 Triple Stumpers overall (no, this isn’t a record…) Jay had zero unforced errors, 18 correct, and both Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy as he cruised to a runaway, which insulated him well from the fact that Final Jeopardy ended up as a Triple Stumper.

Looking forward to the start of Season 42 on Monday. But because Monday Night Football will also be on ABC this week, it should air at 9:30 p.m. here in the LA market and not our usual 7 p.m.
Also, the 3 tapings that I saw on August 8 will air September 22, 23, and 24. Fun times at that taping. π
Hey Jeff!
I am so glad you had fun at the taping!
Rick
I also attended those tapings on August 8th. Yes, lots of fun times at those tapings.
Our local station featured US Navy Lt. Commander in dress whites as contestant two on Monday 9/8. This doesn’t match with what’s here! WTH?
You watched “Daytime Jeopardy”, a rerun from one year ago. Whether that was because your local station screwed up and played the wrong episode on Monday or if you watched Daytime instead of Regular, I do not know.
