Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Travel U.S.A.) for Wednesday, October 22, 2025 (Season 42, Game 33):
The website for this hotel includes mini-biographies of Harold Ross, Edna Ferber & Alexander Woollcott
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Emmanuel Calivo, an airport customer service agent from San Jose, California
|
Katy Lentz, a university brand manager from Mauldin, South Carolina
|
Tom Devlin, an attorney from Washington, D.C. (1-day total: $22,599)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Yesterday on Jeopardy!, Tom Devlin broke a record set during James Holzhauer’s run in 2019 by Adam Levin: his $27,200 entering Final Jeopardy (to Dargan Ware’s $31,800) is the highest-ever non-leading score entering the game’s 61st clue. However, Final Jeopardy (which I still firmly believe to be a perfectly cromulent clue) turned out to be a Triple Stumper, and Tom is your new champion. Today, he defends his title for the first time against Katy Lentz and Emmanuel Calivo. Tom certainly looks to be a strong champion, though—I’d be shocked if he didn’t win a few games himself.
Another reminder that as I said on Monday, the next couple of weeks may see results delayed by up to 30 minutes from usual.

Correct response: What is the Algonquin Hotel?

New York City’s Algonquin Hotel is famous for the “literary brilliance” of The Round Table, whose more famous members (often trading barbs in the restaurant) included Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley. The Algonquin Hotel’s website includes 10 mini-biographies of its most famous members: Parker, Franklin Adams, Benchley, Ross, Robert Sherwood, Woollcott, George S. Kaufman, Heywood Broun, Marc Connelly, and Ferber.
Even if you only associate just Dorothy Parker with the Algonquin Round Table, asking yourself “What hotel would have writers’ biographies on its website?” is the best way in for a correct response on Final Jeopardy today.

Much like yesterday, one player kept the Daily Doubles out of Tom’s hands. Today, it was Emmanuel. However, he got DD2 incorrect and didn’t go all in on DD3; this led to Tom having a slim runaway going into Final Jeopardy.

Emmanuel 14 correct 2 incorrect
Katy 10 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 6 (0 today).

Emmanuel $9,400 – $6,400 = $3,000 (What is the Plaza?)

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Going all in on the final Daily Double would have prevented Tom from having a runaway going into Final Jeopardy.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.

I’ve actually stayed in this hotel, chosen for me by Priceline after naming my own price. A nice hotel with incredibly tiny rooms. Never thought the experience would help me with Final Jeopardy one day.
Two in a row! I am absolutely not sure how I can up with the correct response, unless maybe I’d heard of one the names in the clue answer in association with the round table. However I came up with the correct response, I’ll take another “get.”
Andy; you had me “reaching” for an online dictionary with that word “Cromulent.” Learned a new word. I don’t know if I’ll ever use it.
My first thought (because I recognized two of the three names in the clue as writers) was the Algonquin, but I had no idea it still existed (as having a website implied) and didn’t even try to think of anything else on the assumption that I had no idea [rather the assumption that I could be correct already].
It was interesting that Tom had given the correct response to the clue “This word for shell beads woven into belts & used as a means of exchange comes from Algonquian” just 6 clues prior to his correct FJ response “the Algonquin Hotel” (which was named for the local tribe that had spoken Algonquian). Is that as rare as I would assume? I wonder if, like me, “the Algonquin Hotel” was the first thought of Emmanuel and/or Katy but they rejected it on the assumption that Jeopardy would not have a regular clue and an FJ clue so closely related in the same game.
When reading the FJ clue, two hotels that might include mini-biographies immediately jumped to mind, one in the East and one in the West. Having to choose between the Algonquin in New York and the Hotel Del (Hotel del Coronado) in California, I chose the Algonquin. Although both are fairly famous for having had celebrity guests, I eliminated the Hotel Del mainly because its celebrities are more along the lines of Hollywood types and celebrities in general, while the Algonquin’s celebrities are more along the lines of literary figures, which the names in the clue pointed toward.
If you’re ever in the San Diego area, I highly recommend the Hotel del Coronado. Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, it’s worth the trip as a tourist spot. Lovely area and lovely old hotel. (I don’t have a financial interest in it, I just liked it.)
As soon as I read this FJ clue, I was stunned. A friend’s daughter was in town & had time for a quick visit. She had dinner plans tonight & I had the Knicks season opener (at MSG as we speak, using a TV timeout to check out the FJ clue!!) Since she had a meeting on 44th St, I suggested drinks at The Blue Bar at The Algonquin. She’s a writer so I thought she’d appreciate the suggestion. She did, so a few hours ago, that’s exactly where I was, The Algonquin!! Serendipity!!!
I believe Ken made a mistake when he said, “Coins are species” when giving the correct response to the $2,000 clue in Good As Gold. The clue read, “This word meaning money in coin form is one letter shorter than a word meaning a class of animals capable of interbreeding.” Specie is money in coin form, species refers to animals capable of interbreeding.
I guessed the Biltmore. Nope!
