Warning: This page contains spoilers for the January 24-25, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on April 25, 2005.
Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 1990s Bestsellers) for January 24-25, 2026 (Season 41, Game 165):
In this 1995 book, Pilgrim is taken to Tom, whose job it is to utter secrets “softly into pricked and troubled ears”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Jenn Gardner, a nonprofit arts administrator from Houston, Texas
|
Simon Liebling, a resident physician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
|
Liam Starnes, an undergraduate student from Barrington, Illinois (5-day total: $103,002)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Our weekend reruns continue through the string of Tournament of Champions contenders, with today’s game showing us Liam Starnes’s sixth game against Simon Liebling and Jenn Gardner.
In other news, I’ll be posting my pre-taping preview of the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament tomorrow, even though I am at least partially concerned about the weather causing significant disruptions to contestant travel plans. (The tournament tapes early next week—any major disruptions at this point would be nearly impossible to work through, considering that there is an extremely short turnaround time between taping and airing.)

Correct response: What is The Horse Whisperer?

Later adapted into a movie in the late 1990s, The Horse Whisperer was the bestselling debut novel of Nicholas Evans. Pilgrim was Grace Maclean’s horse who was taken to Tom Booker, the title “horse whisperer” who helps both horse and rider recover from a riding accident.
As I said when this clue originally aired, I thought this clue would have been much more suitable as a Final Jeopardy in the year 2000, shortly after this book—and movie that starred Robert Redford and Scarlett Johansson—would have been more in the public consciousness. Remembering that The Horse Whisperer was a thing from the 1990s is a great deal more difficult in 2025; needless to say, I am not at all surprised that this turned out to be a Triple Stumper.

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the January 24-25, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:
Game Recap:
With the assistance of 14 correct on the opening board and a combined $9,000 on the Daily Doubles, Liam’s victory was never particularly in doubt today. It also didn’t really help that Simon went extremely conservative on the last Daily Double while in a distant second place. (Had he gone all-in like he probably should have in that situation, he would have been just inside of 50% of Liam’s score entering Final.)
Obviously, the rather difficult Final Jeopardy made the earlier wagering moot, as none of our three players remembered that The Horse Whisperer was a thing. Next week’s rerun will see Liam take on Steve Icsman and Erin Morin.
Scores going into Final:
Liam $20,600
Jenn $8,800
Simon $7,800
Tonight’s results:
Simon $7,800 – $1,001 = $6,799 (What is The Poisonwood Bible?)
Jenn $8,800 – $6,900 = $1,900 (What is the da vinci code)
Liam $20,600 – $18 = $20,582 (What is A Clockwork Orange) (6-day total: $123,584)

Game Stats:
Liam $14,400 Coryat, 21 correct, 1 incorrect, 29.82% in first on buzzer (17/57), 3/3 on rebound attempts (on 8 rebound opportunities)
Simon $8,800 Coryat, 11 correct, 1 incorrect, 19.30% in first on buzzer (11/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 8 rebound opportunities)
Jenn $8,800 Coryat, 17 correct, 7 incorrect, 42.11% in first on buzzer (24/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $32,000
Lach Trash: $12,000 (on 11 Triple Stumpers)
Coryat lost to incorrect responses (less double-correct responses): $10,000
Lead Changes: 1
Times Tied: 1
