Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Mountains) for Monday, April 20, 2026 (Season 42, Game 161):

“Heidi” was set in Maienfeld, which is northeast from this 13,642-foot peak with a name that describes what Heidi is

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Caroline Coughlin, an economic researcher from Somerville, Massachusetts
Caroline Coughlin on Jeopardy!
Caleb Phillips, an account manager from Austin, Texas
Caleb Phillips on Jeopardy!
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (26-day total: $732,000)
Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

A new week on Jeopardy! sees Jamie Ding enter as a 26-day champion. It was alluded to on the show’s Substack at the end of last week, but in show production time, this would be the fourth consecutive day that the show is in studio—quite rare for the show. Jamie did say he thought his stamina was holding up well, but we shall see what happens. Certainly, today’s challengers in Caleb Phillips and Caroline Coughlin hope that Jamie doesn’t quite have the same energy.

In terms of what is at stake today for Jamie? He is $16,286 away from surpassing Cris Pannullo for 5th place on the all-time regular play winnings list. I should also note that the show-calculated all-time winnings list (in this case, the one including tournaments) and the fan-calculated all-time winnings list do differ in methodologies: the show only includes tournament winnings if a player reaches the final of a tournament, with quarterfinal and semifinal tournament winnings being classified as consolation prizes and not counted by the show. In general, though, any fan-compiled list of all-time winnings over the years has generally included those consolation prizes—the thought here is that the IRS certainly cares about such consolation prizes, thus, I still think the show should as well.

Correct response: What is Jungfrau?

Jungfrau, German for “young woman” or “maiden”—also describing the title character of the 19th-century Johanna Spyri work—is one of the most distinctive peaks of the Swiss Alps. The area is also home to the Bernese high-altitude building known as the “Top of Europe”.

I’m not sure how this one will play—if you are familiar with or remember Jungfrau in Switzerland, you should be able to get there, but that’s also a lot of Swiss Alps mountains to sift through as well. The fact that there are additional colloquial translations of “Jungfrau” also gives me significant pause, and I’m at least left partly feeling that maybe this Final should have been left in the writers’ room?

Game Recap:

Jamie turned what looked to be a runaway into a much closer game when he missed the last Daily Double with five clues to go. In response, Caleb came quite close to ensuring Jamie didn’t have a runaway entering Final Jeopardy, but a correct response on the last clue of the round cemented win #27 for our champion.

In any case, Final Jeopardy turned out to be a Triple Stumper; Jamie lost just $3,000, becoming a 27-day champion with winnings of $753,000. He goes for win number 28 tomorrow.

Scores going into Final:

Jamie $24,000
Caleb $10,000
Caroline $1,800

Tonight’s results:

Caroline $1,800 – $1,800 = $0 (What is Swiss)
Caleb $10,000 – $0 = $10,000 (What is Mont Blanc?)
Jamie $24,000 – $3,000 = $21,000 (What is…the Eiger?) (27-day total: $753,000)
