Andy back with the recap of Thursday’s game; after yesterday’s performance, I’m going looking forward to watching AJ again. He played quite well in yesterday’s game; his challengers today: Tracey Rhys and Laura Sikes Jambon.
J! round categories: 30 ROCK, LET’S EAT THAI, 8-LETTER CROSSWORD CLUES “P”, I’M JUST SWAMPED!, NOT SO GAY PAREE, ELECTION YEAR BEFORE & AFTER
I think that 30 ROCK may have been on Laura’s dream board; she went back to it whereas AJ and Tracey just wanted to get out of it. At the end of 15, most of Laura’s score was as a result of that category. She led at $3,400, AJ had $2,400, and Tracey had $1,000.
Laura definitely seemed to be enjoying herself up there, I’m pretty sure that she high-fived AJ going into the first break!
And then…
Alex: Laura Sikes Jambon.
Laura: Hi.
Alex: French for “ham”. From Rochester. Had a pygmy goat in college. Why?
Laura: I did. Uh, for the cuteness factor.
Alex: Yeah. Well, there are a lot of other things that are cute. How ’bout a little cat?
Laura: I had a little cat, and one time my little goat–
Alex: But the goat ate it?
Laura: –ate a chunk of her fur. She didn’t enjoy that.
Alex: No.
Laura: Billy also enjoyed eating a lot of things, like a 3-wick candle, an entire bag of Hershey Kisses, and unfortunately, he met his demise by eating a bag of Quikrete.
Alex: That’s not–wait, wait a minute. Was it a 60-pound or an 80-pound bag, because…
Laura: Alex, you’re being insensitive.
Alex: You’re right. Uh… A.J., I don’t want to talk to you.
I feel as if this is the first time Alex has just outright skipped an interview.
Shortly after the interviews, it was AJ that got to the Daily Double, under NOT SO GAY PAREE $800. The scores:
Laura $3,600
AJ $2,800
Tracey $1,000
AJ bet clue value. His clue: In his 52 B.C. “commentaries”, he wrote that the Parisii burned their town rather than surrender to him. His correct response tied him for the lead.
I was very disappointed that they left ELECTION YEAR BEFORE AND AFTER until the end, because we didn’t get to finish it!
Your scores at the end of 29:
AJ $5,200
Laura $5,000
Tracey $2,400
DJ! round categories: 30s ROCK, NIXON’S ENEMIES LIST, HOW NOVEL!, DON’T MESS WITH TAXES, THE TELL-TALE HEART, “OGRAPHY”
Much like yesterday, AJ just rolled through the ROCK categories to take a commanding lead in the game early on in the DJ! round. It was AJ that got to the first Daily Double in the round, at the bottom of THE TELL-TALE HEART. The scores:
AJ $17,600
Laura $7,000
Tracey $2,400
Betting just $1,600, surprising for a student of diagnostic sonography, his clue: An irregular heartbeat may be caused by an imbalance of these ions that conduct current, such as sodium. His correct response put him to $19,200.
AJ kept on dominating the game through the midway point of the round; after getting control of the board though, Laura started at the bottom of HOW NOVEL! and found the Daily Double immediately.
The scores:
AJ $20,400
Laura $8,600
Tracey $1,200
Laura’s words: “Well, I’d like to make it a True Daily Double, Alex.”
Her clue: “If this alleged report is true, that is the last of Roy Hobbs in organized baseball”
She got it, much to her surprise! Cue the home run into the light standard — Laura now has $17,200.
I think that the shock of getting the clue right threw her for a bit, because she rang in on the $1,600 clue and was unable to pull the answer. But at least we have ourselves a game going into Final!
Scores going into Final Jeopardy!:
AJ $22,400
Laura $17,600
Tracey $1,200
FJ! category: THE UNITED NATIONS
FJ! clue: Of the 6 official languages used at the U.N., this one is the last alphabetically
Tracey 1200 + 1000 = 2200
Laura 17600 + 14000 = 31600
AJ 22400 + 12801 = 35201 (2-day champ, $56,002)
Definitely one of the best games I’ve seen on Jeopardy! in quite a while; Laura should be proud of herself, she gave a very strong champion a very good fight.
My Coryat today: $27,200 (36 right, 2 wrong)
What do a candle, Hershey Kisses, and Quikrete have in common?
