Scott Vinick (He looked nervous to me throughout the episode.) |
I like Cara’s hair, the color of her dress, and that she’s into nail polish. I might have that many bottles, if I did my nails myself! It’s best left to the professionals in my case. If there’s ever a time to believe me, it’s now.
You probably recall that Jason won his first (only?) game yesterday.
Randomonium? Not crazy about that title. As for Where Am I?, have a look at today’s tweeted clue. I had a feeling this was going to be a video category. I almost guessed correctly, but wasn’t sure so I clammed. I have seen this venue, so I’d have rung in if it had come up on the show.
Jason and I started hot by sweeping Pick Up Your “Cue”. Nothing like intimidating your opponents, who surely saw Jason’s performance yesterday, too.
Did you guys know this triple-stumper, in Randomonium?: “These 2 objects used in men’s field events each weigh 16 pounds.” I said what Scott did. Cara negged too, and Jason wisely clammed.
Andy might be glad to know I gave this correct response to this clue, also in Randomonium: “One of the 4 board games invented in the 20th century that are in the National Toy Hall of Fame.”
At the first break, Jason had gotten 6 right and one wrong, and had 3600. Cara had gotten 5 right and one wrong, and had 2000. Scott had gotten one right and one wrong and was in the hole 200.
Cara found the Daily Double of the round, in Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. She had gotten one right since the break, and had 3000 now. Scott had gotten one wrong and sank further into the hole, at -800. Jason had gotten 2 right and had 4800. This one was a snap for me: “An official song for the jubilee was co-written by this musical theatre mogul who was knighted in 1992.” Cara got it too, and added 1200 to her total.
I swept Game Show Names in Other Countries. Jason got 4 of those 5, and Cara got the remaining one.
Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with the whole All About Acting category remaining. Luckily we saw all those clues. Jason had gotten 8 right since Cara’s Daily Double, and had 9800. Cara had gotten 3 right and had 6200. Scott had gotten one right and had 0.
I swept It’s “Over”! to start out.
Scott found the first Daily Double of the round! He’d gotten 5 right, and had 4000 now! Jason had gotten 5 right too, and 2 wrong, and still had 11000. Cara had gotten 6 right and had 13800. Scott wagered 1500 on this clue in Nature Boy: “The yellow-rumped warbler is also known as this artist’s warbler.” Scott and I got it right!
Sort of like yesterday, Jason found the second Daily Double toward the end of the round in a neck-and-neck game. (There were 8 clues left after the Daily Double, today.) He’d gotten 2 right since Scott’s Daily Double, and had 13400. Cara still had 13800 and Scott still had 5500. I wonder if Cara knew the answer to this one, as it appeared she was trying to ring in on the clue immediately preceding it that Jason got instead. Here’s the Daily Double, in Chapter 13 (you identify the novel): “The route taken by Hawk-Eye lay across those sandy plains.” Jason lost 2600 on this one. (I like how he seems to consider his wagers so carefully, but I’ll leave the analysis to others.)
There were two clues left covered at the end of the round. Jason and Scott had each gotten one right, but Scott had also gotten one wrong. They had 11200 and 4300, respectively. Cara had gotten 2 right at a good time for that, and had 17000.
The Final Jeopardy category was Religious Symbols. This was the clue, which drew something like an “Are you kidding me?” from me, before Mr. Trebek was done reading it: “The rooster atop many church weather vanes is there to remind us of a story involving this apostle.” To my amazement, Scott and Cara got it wrong. They gave the same response. Scott lost 1200. When Jason’s correct response was revealed, Mr. Trebek gave an “of course,” as he does sometimes! Jason added 11122. (?) Cara lost 6000, incidentally. Now we will see Jason again tomorrow!
My Coryat today was 25400 (30600 without negs).
