…or what you need. I’m disgruntled because of my latest phone problem. This time it’s with U.S. Cellular itself. And I want the world to know about it. I wanted to even “mention” them in the title (since my titles tweet automatically when a post publishes), but I couldn’t do it elegantly. At least I told them in a tweet that this was coming. And this will make me feel a little better when my next bill is huge. Normally I don’t advocate “Don’t get mad. Get even.” But today? Oh yeah. Also, less damage but it’s the principle: They refused to completely remove a charge for a ringtone that had been advertised as free.
Now for the reasons you really came:
One recent season 25 Coryat, and one from this weekend’s rerun:
Originally 6-15-12: 20400 (23800 without negs), but there were many where I should’ve rung in. The first time I played, my score was 18800.
Originally 3-12-09: 31000 (33000 without negs) And this was a ToC game!
This week’s contestants:

Mike McCormick
Rebecca Neese
Jennifer North

Maybe it’s because I just saw “White Christmas” on Friday, but Chris looks a little like Rosemary Clooney from that movie.
Jason, of course, is a 3-time champion coming into today.
I’m happy to report that this episode went much better for me than Friday’s, in which you may recall I had 11 negs. Today? One. One?! One?!? Like, this never happens. And it was in the top row of the board, and none of the contestants knew it either.
I started out by sweeping Monopoly Tokens. I believe Jason had gotten 3 in Monopoly Tokens and 4 in 6-Letter Words (plus a few more) at the first break. He had 5000. Chris had gotten one right and one wrong, and had 200. Basia had gotten 3 right and had 1000.
Three interesting contestant interviews today. We learned why (maybe) Basia kept going back to Under the Sea in Baja – She works for a charity that aims to protect the endangered animals that live on the Cayman Islands. We learned that Chris has an identical twin sister, and that she was a champion in 2010. Look, I blogged on her episodes (1 and 2)! I wonder if she was in the audience. I too have a Jeopardy! ringtone (a co-worker once told me she’d be disappointed if I didn’t!). Mine is for text messages. Finally, we learned in today’s interviews that Jason is an Aggie.
I swept Sports on Film after the break.
Jason found the Daily Double of the round, in Shakespearean Scene Settings. There were 4 clues left on the board after this one. Jason had gotten 3 right since the break and had 6800. Chris had gotten one right and had 400. Basia had gotten 5 right and had 4200. Jason wagered 2000 on this clue: “Another part of the island.” He and I got it right.
At the end of the round, both Basia and Chris had gotten one more right and one more wrong. Chris was in the hole 200, and Basia had…4400. 😉 Jason still had 8800.
This one struck a chord with me, in : “A private act of prayer.” I’ve been looking for one to do, for a special intention. I settled on this one, since Saturday is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. I’ll forever remember that day as the one after I lost in 2012. My sister and I attended Mass in Los Angeles! 🙂 Anyway I’ll let you know when I get what I’m after, but expect it to be many months from now.
Basia found the first Daily Double of the round, in Painted Ladies. She had gotten 2 right since the round started, and had 6800. Chris had gotten 6 right and one wrong, and had 5000. Jason was his usual self, having gotten 9 right and one wrong. He had 16400. Basia wagered 2000 on this clue I was pleased to get right: “His paintings of the naked & clothed ‘majas’ caused him to be called before a tribunal.” Basia didn’t get it right.
The next clue was a triple-stumper (my one neg), and the next one was the other Daily Double, so it was Basia’s and the scores hadn’t changed. This time she wagered just 1500 on this clue in Mountain Do: “Appropriately, the highest mountain peak in this South American country is Pico Cristobal Colon.” She and I got it right. (I was 3 for 3 in Daily Doubles!)
Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with 7 clues left. Unfortunately Chris and Basia each negged once after that, but it doesn’t look like it would’ve changed that Jason had a lock. One clue was left covered in Painted Ladies, and it’s too bad because I was 4 for 4! Jason by the way had gotten 3 right since Basia’s second Daily Double. Chris had gotten 2 right and the one wrong, and had 7000. Basia had 4700.
The Final Jeopardy category was Phrase Origins. This was the clue: “This 2-word adjective for ‘going against accepted speech or conduct’ first appeared in a 1933 translation from Izvestia.” All three contestants were wrong. Basia lost all but a dollar. “Countercultural” was the best I could do, too. Chris lost all but a dollar too! Oh, ladies. Jason lost 3800, giving him a 4-day total of 85200. We’ll see him tomorrow!
These were my triple-stumpers today:
- In At the Vegas Hotel: “The Tournament of Kings Dining Show, Castle Walk, Fun Dungeon.”
- Also in At the Vegas Hotel: “A Midway, an Adventuredome.”
- In Painted Ladies: “‘Tahitian Women Bathing’ is one of his paintings at the Met.”
- Again in Painted Ladies: “‘The Two Fridas’ shows a bleeding, broken-hearted Frida Kahlo on the left, torn over her divorce from this artist.”
My Coryat today was 32000. So this post ends on a happy note, including an update to the ToC list, which for some reason I keep wanting to call the “ol'” ToC list:
