Where Andy Dislikes One Contestant Much Less Than Yesterday

Andy back again with the recap of Tuesday, January 22! I couldn’t quite convince Jeanie to blog this show today, so I’m doing the writing today!

I had a friend point out to me yesterday that Patrick from last week found and shared the write-up! I’m always glad to hear when people find my write-ups. Even if I’ve written angry things!

Michelle Souza and Buddy Hammett are the two challengers today for 1-day champion Barbara Sheridan!

J! round categories:
IF THE SHOE FITS…
ART & ARTIST
THE “B” TEAM
WEIGHTS & MEASURES
NOUN; VERB
I’M DYING HERE!

Michelle got the game’s first two clues, but Barbara got the third one! The fourth one (ART & ARTISTS $800) had the first Daily Double!

Scores:
Michelle $600
Barbara $600
Buddy $0

Barbara bet the full $1000, and her clue was: In a 1972 documentary he said, “Brigid’s been doing my paintings for the last 3 years”. Her incorrect response put her at -$400.

Barbara had a great deal of difficulty with guessing early on, and she took a number of negs before the first break! That break came early (after only 13 clues), and the scores were:

Michelle $1,000
Buddy $400
Barbara -$2,000

Michelle’s sister Julie hates the contestant interview section of the show. Personally, I enjoyed all three interviews today! Buddy got thrown in jail at an Alabama football game for second-guessing Bear Bryant while drunk, and Barbara once told Penny Marshall that “she looked prettier on TV”. You just know some wiseacre is going to say the same thing now to Barbara in the street!

Back to the game, I enjoyed watching Michelle play the game. She seemed very calm while just steamrollering the game! Buddy got some gets in as well, but they just seemed to leave

If I faced this question on the show, I’d definitely want to fake a spit take after the following clue (THE “B” TEAM $400): In 2011 this team won its first Stanley Cup in 39 years. The only Boston team I can remotely stand are the Celtics…

By the end of 30 clues, the scores were:
Michelle $5,600
Buddy $5,400
Barbara -$800

DJ! round category:
HERE COMES THE JUDGE
METALS
SONGS FOR YOUR CAT
ANCIENT HISTORY
“USE”FUL INFORMATION
LITERARY LAST LINES

Barbara found her buzzer mojo a little bit when starting off this round, and she was rewarded when she was given the Daily Double on the 8th clue of the round, under LITERARY LAST LINES $800! Scores:

Buddy $7,800
Michelle $7,200
Barbara $2,000

Going for the full $2,000, her clue was: A children’s classic: “I’m so glad to be at home again!” Her correct response doubled her score to $4,000!

You know, I really enjoyed more of how Barbara played today than yesterday (though I usually do find that about champions as their run progresses)

Michelle got to play the final Daily Double shortly thereafter, at METALS $1200; the scores were:

Buddy $9,000
Michelle $8,000
Barbara $4,000

Michelle bet $2,000. Her clue: The name of this alkaline earth metal comes partly for “lime” (as in limestone). Her incorrect response put her at $6,000.

The loss of $2,000 didn’t faze Michelle whatsoever, though! The remaining 19 clues were the Michelle show! She ran SONGS FOR YOUR CAT and she picked up 6 other clues as well to take a commanding lead going into Final! Barbara picked up 2 and Buddy 4 of the others that Michelle left scattered, leading to the scores going into Final of:

Michelle $19,200
Buddy $12,200
Barbara $5,600

FJ! category: OFFICIAL COUNTRY NAMES

FJ! clue: It’s the only nation in the world that officially describes itself as a confederation

Barbara 5600 – 5598 = 2
Buddy 12200 – 5599 = 6601
Michelle 19200 – 5201 = 13999

I’m not sure what Buddy was attempting to do with his bet there, to be honest. I can’t make heads or tails out of it. Not that it mattered, though, as Michelle will be back again tomorrow to play again! I’ll be back again to blog it! See you then!

I should have had this Final but I didn’t get it. I’m annoyed. Oh well.
