Week 2 of this summer’s encore presentation takes us to Week 2 of Champions Wildcard; the week opens with the first semifinal between Ryan Sharpe, Vickie Talvola, and Cameron Berry.
Back in January, when this game originally aired, I said in the pregame, “I would not be surprised if today’s game was the best game of the entire tournament; all three of these players are incredibly strong players and very good at playing Jeopardy!. Was I ever correct with that prediction; less than a week later, it was announced that this game took the Best Game award at the 4th Jeopardy! Honors event.
For those who may have missed it, I posted thoughts yesterday on what I thought could be taken away from the opening season of ESPN Jeopardy!; its 10 episodes dropped at the same time on Friday. I also want to mention that due to the format similarities between this and Celebrity Jeopardy, the plan from J! Archive is to Archive the ESPN games; however, as we have said at J! Archive for the past 20-plus years, the amount of backend work that would be required to support the Art Fleming games would not be worth the incredibly small percentage of those games that are not lost media at this point.

Also known as German measles because it was first described by Hoffman, a German, as well as other German physicians, rubella was given its Latin name (it meant “little red” in Latin) by Henry Veale in 1866, when an outbreak in India was being described. Vaccines available since the 1970s have been very effective in controlling outbreaks, which used to occur every few years in North America.
Back when this clue originally aired, I expressed great surprise that “Medical History” had been the Final Jeopardy category twice in the span of eight episodes, and that it was Ryan’s Second Chance semifinal that saw the category used in Final Jeopardy. In hindsight, especially now that the game has been aired, I am even more surprised. It still feels like lazy writing to me in order to run an identical category name in Final Jeopardy so soon after the previous.
