Just don’t ask why this Thursday recap is publishing now. It’s kind of fun to be publishing at this odd time, though. Maybe I’ll attract people that otherwise wouldn’t see this.
Gabe Gales defends for the first time today.
Anybody else say “Diaries” on this clue in Movie Title Overlaps: “The Rum _____ of a Wimpy Kid.” It was my first neg of many, as you’ll see when you get to my Coryat.
On the other hand, is it a sign of the apocalypse that I swept a Shakespeare category (Shakespeare – Act II, Scene I)? Darryl Campbell was “off and running” – so said Mr. Trebek – when he found the Daily Double there. He had gotten 7 right at and had 3800. Gabe and Laura Amundson had each gotten 2 right and had 1000 and 600 respectively. Darryl wagered 1200 on this clue: “Prospero my Lord shall know what I have done…so, King, go safely on to seek thy son.” Darryl got it too.
Laura got 2 more right when the first break arrived. She had 2000 then, while Gabe still had 1000 and Darryl had 5000. Gabe got 7 more right before the round ended, and had 5600 then. Laura got one more right and had 2600, and Darryl got 4 more right and had 6800.
Laura found the Daily Double in American Lives early in Double Jeopardy. She’d gotten 2 right and had 4600. Darryl had gotten one right and had 7200, and Gabe still had 5600. Laura wagered 4000 on this clue: “Lois Sharp’s biography of this 20th century woman is subtitled ‘First Lady of American Liberalism.'” She got it right, and quickly.
Jaw-dropper of the day, that this was a triple-stumper in Words of Stevie Wonder: “This title, ‘I have someone who needs me, someone I’ve needed so long.” I swept this category too.
Gabe found the next Daily Double in Colleges with Mass. Appeal. He was thrilled to choose that clue, too. He’d gotten 4 right and one wrong since Laura’s Daily Double, and had 10400. Laura had gotten 6 right and had 14200, and Darryl had gotten 8 right and had 16800. There were 2 clues left on the board after this one. Gabe wagered 3000 on this clue: “The motto of this university named for a Supreme Court justice is ‘Truth, even unto its innermost parts.'” I got this but Gabe didn’t.
Gabe got one of the last two clues, and no one got the last one. Laura negged on it though. At the end of the round then, Gabe had 8200, Laura had 12200 and Darryl had 16800.
The Final Jeopardy category is Transportation. This is the clue: “Susan B. Anthony said this new fad had ‘done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world.” I got this right. Gabe got it wrong. He lost 1300. Laura got it right and added 8195. Darryl got it wrong and lost 7601.
So Laura wins, and uh…we’ve already seen her play again today.
My Coryat today was 20200 (26200 without negs).
Thank God it’s Thursday on Friday
