The show has had to go deep into its rules arcana over the past couple of weeks! To be honest, it’s left me longing for a “normal” game with very little controversy.
That being said: the show has rules, and I truly believe that the show has done its very best to apply those rules as fairly as possible, especially when it comes to judging responses correct (or incorrect), and it makes me sad to think that there are people out there in the viewership who feel that the wrong victor might have been declared (spoiler alert: that has definitely not happened).
Also, I’d like to say that this group of contestants in this College Tournament has been pretty awesome. It was really obvious to me as to why this group was cast by the show!
Today’s contestants:
Hannah Norem, a sophomore at Augustana University from Houston, TX![]() |
Sam Deutsch, a junior at the University of Southern California from Bethesda, MD![]() |
Emily Bingham, a senior at Wright State University from Dayton, OH![]() |
Scores going into Final Jeopardy:
Sam $12,800
Hannah $9,100
Emily $5,100
Final Jeopardy! category: WORLD LITERATURE
Final Jeopardy! clue: It was originally published in 1915 under the German title “Die Verwandlung”, meaning “The Transformation”
What is The Metamorphosis (by Franz Kafka)
Emily 5100 + 4001 = 9101 (The Metamorphasis)
Hannah 9100 + 9100 = 18200 (Metamorphosis)
Sam 12800 + 5401 = 18201 (The Metamorphosis)
(Going back into the rules arcana for a second: this Final is a case where the leading article can be added or dropped with impunity. And Emily’s spelling obviously didn’t change the pronunciation of the word.)
My guess is that Keith tonight will give Sam a green, Hannah either a pink or an orange (likely pink, though going all-in here is possible from Hannah if she thinks Sam will bet small; something between 1100-1700 would have earned Hannah a green), and Emily a yellow (Emily should have gone all-in).
