J! round categories: WORLD WAR I; NAME THAT MOVIE; MIDDLE NAMES; SPOT THE KITTY; MEMORIALS; ADD A LETTER

Ken got off to a bit of a slow start, picking up only three of the first nine clues. Though, as he liked to do, he then picked up seven in a row straddling the opening break.

After 30 the score was pretty close (Ken didn’t ring in at all between Clues 23 and 30).
Ken $6,800
Carla $5,000
Joe $800

Joe went 3/5 in NAME THAT MOVIE, Carla went 4/5 in SPOT THE KITTY, while Ken proved his might on wordplay clues by going 5/5 in ADD A LETTER. The $1000: Add this letter to plant & it becomes easily bent (What is I?, as it makes “pliant”)

DJ! round categories: PRESIDENTS; BROADWAY; WOMEN WRITERS; HEAVENS TO BETSY!; HITHER & YON; YOU’RE GOING TO “POT”

These categories didn’t play nearly as well for Carla: of the 30, she only got 4 of them correct.

While Ken missed both Daily Doubles that he played in this round, the game was very much in his control, as he picked up 16 clues on his own outside of the Daily Doubles.

For the seventh time in nine games, it was a runaway for Ken going into Final.

Ken ran WOMEN WRITERS, and went 3/5 in PRESIDENTS and YOU’RE GOING TO “POT”.

Scores going into Final Jeopardy:
Ken $22,000
Carla $8,200
Joe $4,400

Final Jeopardy! category: ON EXHIBIT

Final Jeopardy! clue: The Chinese government, which controls all of these in the U.S., won’t let a new one be named until it’s 100 days old

Ken’s interview was a fun one today!

Alex: Ken Jennings is our eight-time champion. I can’t believe, on the information card about you, it says,”a friend,” as bright as you are, “a friend tricked you into jumping out of a plane.” What did he say?

Ken: “Oh, that door? Yes, that’s the door to the snack bar. That’s the door to the washroom.” [Audience laughing]

Alex: What… how did somebody trick you into jumping out of a plane?

Ken: Well, he was really excited to try out skydiving, and he brought me with him for moral support. And we both signed up. I didn’t want to look like a big chicken. And then,at the last minute, he decided wanted to look like a big chicken, and he left me as the only one jumping out of the plane.

Alex: Did you step on that little step over the wheel and…

Ken: It’s pretty scary.

Alex: It is, indeed. I know it.
