Quick Recap & Today’s Final Jeopardy – December 13, 2016

One of today’s contestants, Cindy Stowell, passed away on December 5; she had competed on the show with stage IV cancer. Her friends and family will also appreciate donations on her behalf to the Cancer Research Institute.

Here’s tonight’s Final Jeopardy answer and question for Tuesday, December 13, 2016:

What is Santiago?

Today’s Jeopardy! results will go up on this page late afternoon, with full stats early evening. They will be seen in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

Other things, beside the capital city of Chile, that are named after St. James:

  • The brewery that produces Guinness Beer;
  • The home stadium of Newcastle United F.C.;
  • The current theatre home of Something Rotten!on Broadway.

Of course, “Santiago” is the Spanish name for James, Son of Zebedee, one of Jesus’ apostles. Other major Santiago places besides the ones in Chile and Cuba are in the Dominican Republic (known fully as Santiago de los Caballeros) and in the Philippines.

How did I remember all of the “named after St. James” stuff I listed above? It came up in LearnedLeague back in 2014.

Please remember, that if you were touched by Cindy’s Jeopardy! journey and story, that donations in her memory to the Cancer Research Institute would be greatly appreciated by her family.

  1. I think that today’s episode of JEOPARDY! will be a very special episode, because of Cindy Stowell.

    • Asuncion? Interesting guess. My guess, Sao Paolo, isn’t even the capital of Brazil, so I knew I was wrong.

      Cindy, I know you can’t hear me right now, but congratulations on winning, defeating Tim Aten. Tim, you were a good player. Can’t wait to see you in the ToC.

  3. So, the woman that passed away wins today. That’s shocking news for me.Tim,great run. 7 wins, $107,499 & we’ll for sure see you in the Tournament Of Champions sometime in 2017.

  4. One religion question mentions a first century BC epistle author. (Paul was answer) Problem is they were AD not BC

      Excellent point. I’m not sure what to say. Jeopardy does whiff on a few clues that way a season.

      (They’d actually run categories poking fun at past mistakes in early seasons of the program.)

    • This was an embarassing mistake for them to make. I’m guessing they heard about it from a lot of people! Do they ever comment about these types of errors, like a mea culpa or retractment statement? I love the show, but I couldn’t believe Alex could read the question without noticing the error. BTW I couldn’t believe Cindy’s performance and how well she carried herself. RIP

      • Andy Saunders | December 14, 2016 at 11:07 pm |

        If they catch something before it airs, they will have Alex tape a statement. Once it airs, though, it would be very rare to see an official statement. In fact, I’ve never recalled seeing a statement released after the fact over a clue in all of my many many years following the show

  5. Christopher Denault | December 13, 2016 at 8:31 pm |

    I know we’re not supposed to root for one player over the other two, but in all honesty, I’m glad Cindy’s won at least once. Let’s hope that she can get on a run and make this a national story worth celebrating even more.

  6. Another thing named for St. James – the palace that, at least nominally, is the official residence of the monarch of the United Kingdom. For example, ambassadors to the UK are accredited to the Court of St. James’s.

    Great get by Cindy… and a great run by Tim. The stats here helped me to look past the top-line winnings figures and appreciate just how precise his play was. Look forward to seeing him in the ToC!

  7. Louise Pelletier | December 13, 2016 at 8:45 pm |

    Tim is a very good player but I am glad that Cindy won she was so happy. Her dream came true! Thanks to those who made it possible.

  8. Not only did Cindy appear on Jeopardy, she became a Jeopardy champion. Yes. Knowing what we know about her quest had me on the verge of tears. Such a poignant moment. Cindy, bless you. Rest in Peace.

  9. Andy Saunders | December 14, 2016 at 1:34 pm |

    Many fans are watching the show and electing to donate $1 for each correct response they give while playing at home, an idea come up with by Chelsea Cohen, one of December 15’s contestants!

    In case you want to look up the game to jog your memory on how many you got, this game is now up on J! Archive.
