Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, November 5, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the November 5, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 11th Century Europe) for Wednesday, November 5, 2025 (Season 42, Game 43):

Within one year of its consecration, this building hosted a royal funeral & 1 or 2 coronations

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Allegra Kuney, a Ph.D. candidate from New Brunswick, New Jersey
Allegra Kuney on Jeopardy!
Sofia Meisburger, a proposal writer from Washington, D.C.
Sofia Meisburger on Jeopardy!
Joseph Evans, a middle school history teacher from Beltsville, Maryland (1-day total: $15,529)
Joseph Evans on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Joe Evans is your new Jeopardy! champion—though he’s being introduced by Johnny Gilbert as Joseph, which has made for some interesting recap reading since yesterday afternoon, we’ll just say. Today, he faces off against Washington, D.C.’s Sofia Meisburger and New Brunswick, New Jersey’s Allegra Kuney. (As a Canadian, though, I wish there were more contestants from New Brunswick, Canada than New Brunswick, New Jersey.)

What do I think about Joe’s postseason chances? Unless he has an incredibly decisive second victory (I’m thinking somewhere where he wins at least $35,000 today), he’s probably going to need a pair of victories in order to see postseason play. (In fact, at this point, I think Joyelle McSweeney, who Joe beat yesterday, would have a better chance right now of seeing Champions Wildcard as things stand right now.)

Correct response: What is Westminster Abbey?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

First consecrated on December 28, 1065, Westminster Abbey was originally rebuilt from St. Peter’s Abbey by Edward the Confessor to be his royal burial church, with Edward passing just over a week after its consecration. While it is ultimately unknown if Edward’s successor Harold Godwinson was crowned there, it is definitely known that William the Conqueror was crowned there on Christmas Day 1066. Since, Westminster Abbey is the traditional coronation location of an English monarch.

It seems as though the biggest clue today might come in the form of the category, specifically the “11th century” part of the category. One red herring, though, is that Europe is used here. Usually, the show uses Europe to refer to Continental Europe, which makes me wonder if “The 11th Century” in and of itself might have been the better category here.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Here’s a link to Sofia’s game.
  • I do think that Allegra has done enough that even if she loses tomorrow, she would likely find herself receiving a Champions Wildcard invitation. However, I absolutely think that she is more than capable of winning into next week as well.
  • I don’t actually hate Sofia ducking the Daily Doubles; finding DD3 wouldn’t have helped her win chances, but Joe finding DD3 and being correct with a sufficiently large wager might have given her a faint hope.
  • Today’s double runaway means that wagering suggestions are superfluous today.
  • Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.

8 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, November 5, 2025"

  1. Guessed correctly, realizing that this was a little too early for Notre Dame de Paris.

    • I thought of Notre Dame first (having no idea when it was built – and mind initially thinking ‘the continent’ when thinking Europe), but realized Westminster Abbey was more likely to be having more coronations.

      • Notre Dame was my “final answer.” I considered Westminster Abbey, but I thought I remembered the last couple of British royalty weddings had been at a different church, so I decided that despite being (one of) the biggest churches in the Anglican faith community, it wasn’t the one used for British royalty events.

  2. Once I connected “11th Century” with 1066, I figured it was Westminster Abbey.

  3. The Scrabble clue said the word “jazz” is a base score of 29. Not possible. There is only one Z (10 points) in a Scrabble set.

    • Speaking as a subject matter expert (former chair of NASPA’s Tournament Committee), you think you’re correct but you’re not. Some variants, like Super Scrabble, contain more than one Z, or if a game starts with a nonstandard distribution (more than one Z) it finishes that way. So a 2-Z game is possible and the clue is correct.

      Nice try, though!

  4. Westminster Abbey had been traditional for royal weddings for A LONG TIME before Elizabeth married Phillip there, then all her children’s [first] weddings were there until Edward’s was at St. George’s Chapel. Then William’s wedding was at Westminster Abbey. Then Harry’s was at St. George’s Chapel.

So, for over 900 years of tradition [NOT that EVERY wedding was there], one in 1999 and one in 2011 would seem so far to just be exceptions rather than the end of a tradition — well, at least until when Britain ends royalty.

  5. I guessed Windsor Castle. Nope!
