Miscellany:
Oh, my, a very prescient rule reminder from Andy “Nostradamus” Saunders. The one thing the reminder doesn’t mention is that even though misspellings can result in an allowed answer, there’s no rule to prevent a contestant from looking a bit silly on national TV ….
Only if it doesn’t change the pronunciation, and titles must be spelled exactly.
Frank:
Take a closer look at who you’re replying to. 😉
I meant to reply to you. You mentioned spelling answers.
Never mind.
My apologies.
1) Congratulations, Kevin!
2) That is an excellent point! Though in terms of prescience, I just had an inkling that the correct response would be: a) easily gettable; b) easily misspelled. So, I figured I’d try to head off the avalanche of “why did the judges let a misspelled response through?”
Thanks for the note. Fortunately for me, the “H” was sihlent. Whew.
Great game, Kevin – congrats! Loved your story about your trip, and how much you loved Edinburgh (although I would put in a vote for Glasgow. 🙂
Laurie — thanks for the note. The whole trip was GREAT! One highlight after another. I was stationed in Germany in the mid-70s, so we got to see a lot of the continent, but was never able to spend much time in the U.K. It was hard to pick out a highlight on the spur of the moment. Had to go with Edinburgh, since on the way home my wife and I agreed that if we get to go back, Edinburgh will be our first stop since we left so much that we wanted to see, unseen.
Glad you had such a wonderful time! If you go back, definitely try and see some of Glasgow as well – it’s a beautiful city and very underrated (at least in comparison to Edinburgh).
Delighted to see Chief Shrum on Jeopardy! Told my wife, “We shared a cubicle at Pope and he turned me on to science fiction”. I’m still reading sci-fi today and I remember the Chief saying he envied my getting to read “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” for the first time. Great guy. I miss him and the 2 o’clock Coke flip.
