Divided into nine books, the famous Histories of Herodotus, published around 440 BC, is a record of the ancient histories surrounding the various Eastern Mediterranean cultures and their clashes, including the Greeks and Persians, of which Herodotus recounts their slaughter at Salamis and Plataea over the final three books.
