What is Augusta National Golf Club?
For many years prior, Augusta National Golf Club (home course of the Masters tournament), had come under fire for its membership policies. At one point, the club had a policy requiring all caddies be black, and did not admit its first African-American member until 1990. The club started receiving pressure in 2002 to admit female members (and pressure on corporate sponsors caused a couple of Masters tournaments to be broadcast commercial-free), but did not do so until 2012 when it admitted Rice and Moore.

If they don’t overthink it then we should have another 3/3 or all left standing get it. Finally another “easy” Friday clue. For awhile they had Fridays always as an almost “gimme”. So whoever will be in the lead before FJ should be winning, presuming a “conventional” wager. The category alone is already half the solution.
This being Friday, have a GREAT weekend everybody!!
Early on, I thought Miles would have this game; He even looks a bit like Ken Jennings. With Joe getting both Double J! DD’s, I knew it would be tight.
Have a good weekend yourself!
Scores going into Final:
Joe $16,600
Miles $13,600

Miles $13,600 – $7,777 = $5,823 (What is the)
Joe $16,600 + $10,601 = $27,201 (What is Augusta Golf Club?) (3-day total: $77,202)
(Judging note: The judges explicitly accepted Joe’s Final Jeopardy response; Alex stated that “because most people refer to it as Augusta simply.”)

Maybe the clue was TOO obvious and Erin and Miles thought they smelled a rat? Erin had the right sport and Miles might have just run out of time?
Do contestants know the air date/day of their games,Andy?
They do.
Erin was as close as you can get without being right.
For me, it was easy. I follow golf. But if you don’t follow golf, it’s much harder.
Well, yes. I am not exactly a golf fan, but you can’t help being bombarded by every possible way (internet,TV, newspapers etc), especially when it comes to the most important tournaments and locations. And living on Maui we have 2 major tournaments here and several others on Oahu. So there is really no escaping that info unless you turn everything off during the tournaments. But even then you are hunted down by sponsor ads galore all the time.Just the arrest of Tiger Woods provided more coverage than I really cared about and he is already yesterday;s news more or less. I was shocked when I saw how his appearance has changed in a relatively short time. Yes, he was probably under the influence of strong pain meds but they should not have THAT kind of effect when taken as ordered by your doctor(s).The first thing that went through my mind was that he may be a lot sicker than is said.
The other possibilities are of course that either the physicians are not prescribing the proper dosage or that a patient is not following his orders, especially overdosing and/or mixing his meds with alcohol or other meds you should not take when on a certain regimen.
I had no idea what the question was talking about, though I do watch golf sometimes. Tonight was the first time in three days I was home to watch the show. I missed the pronunciation of Joe’s last name, Nguyen. Can anyone tell me?
This is the first time that Social and Sports Barriers was a category in Final Jeopardy! and even Trebek thought it was a tough category, but Joe knew the answer and the leader got it right! Yes!
Nguyen is pronounced Nuh-winn
(Judging note: The judges explicitly accepted Joe’s Final Jeopardy response; Alex stated that “because most people refer to it as Augusta simply.”)
A case where too much specificity instead of too little could be detrimental — I should have left it at just “Augusta.” I knew it was AN Augusta golf club, but I added too much and thought out “Augusta Country Club” instead of “National Golf Club.” One of those TMI moments that occasionally happen on Jeopardy……
Rob is in deep trouble and Tim and Todd are also in a bit of trouble because his total could exceed theirs.
