The flag of Laos, one of the few communist-country flags (other than Cuba) not to include any communist symbolism (and the only one not to include a five-pointed star.) Originally adopted in 1945, it was re-adopted in 1975. The red color has always been on a Laotian flag.

The Mekong, at a length of 2,703 miles, is the 12th-longest in the world.

  1. back to the leader not making the cover bet.lol

  2. Very competitive game today…almost a 3-way tie after the J Round. I wonder if there’s ever been one. There must be a rule for who would go first in DJ if it ever happened..don’t remember ever seeing it though.

    • I’d think it’d be the same as a 2-way tie for second at the end of the Jeopardy! round – in which case, the player leftmost on stage (closest to Alex) selects first in Double.

The giant killer curse lives on.

  4. Are there any actual stats re how often the Giant Killer Curse strikes?

I didn’t score the game, but it is my impression that Scarlett hardly buzzed in at all during Double Jeopardy.

    Jasper

    • She buzzed in three times in Double Jeopardy!

(As an aside, while I’m here and typing:) A number of former contestants have said, especially on JBoard today, that there is a distinct shock that kicks in after winning a game of Jeopardy!, and that certainly has been known to hamper one’s play in a championship defence — especially as usually, only 15 minutes occurs between tapings. I would also venture that the shock of being a “giant killer” exacerbates this, which certainly explains why these contestants don’t do as well in their second game, and why it is patently unfair to cast aspersions on them, or the players whom they might have defeated.

      • That’s what makes it all the more special when someone emerges who has that something extra to overcome such things. As in sports, they’re called the “intangibles”, and we celebrate them for it all the time. Some have it, some don’t.

        • Ken has it, Juliá has it, Buzzy has it, and Austin definitely has it. Speaking of whom, his delight for Scarlett at the end was so spontaneous and genuine, it definitely changed my opinion of him. Good luck to him and everyone in the T of C!

      • You’ve misunderstood my question re the Giant Killer Curse. By no means was I casting aspersions on anyone. I am simply curious as to how often this so-called curse strikes.

As someone who has fared poorly in playing the game (other than a few select categories). I greatly admire anyone who is sharp enough to qualify as a contestant.

        Jasper

        • So do I. 🙂

        • Jasper:

I’m sorry if I you thought I was misunderstanding your question. There were about a half a dozen people whose comments were not approved as they were casting aspersions on various happenings, and I wanted to put out a blanket reply to those statements. (Hence, the “as an aside, while I’m here”.)
