More information about Final Jeopardy:
Amadis of Gaul is a literary work dating back to medieval times. The oldest surviving printed work of it dates to 1508. It became a well-loved series of literary works in 16th century Spain, to the point that many Spanish conquistadores used the series as inspirations for place names in the New World (one example being California, which has been said to come from Las sergas de Esplandián.)
The character was parodied by Miguel de Cervantes in 1605’s Don Quixote; Quixote idolizes Amadis.
