Correct response: Who is (Marshal) Philippe Pétain?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
Philippe Pétain, during World War I, became a national hero at the Battle of Verdun, and after the war was made a Marshal of France. Unfortunately, during World War II, Pétain became installed as an authoritarian head of Vichy France, which collaborated with Nazi Germany. Seen as the French equivalent of Norway’s Quisling after the war, he was sentenced to death after being convicted of treason, but his sentence was commuted to life in light of his advanced age and his World War I heroics.
