Correct response: What is Spain?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
In spite of Spain being equal in longitude with Great Britain, Francisco Franco changed Spain’s time in 1940 to Central European Time, in order to be in line with the rest of Nazi-occupied Europe. Interestingly, the relatively late sunrises offered in Spain have effects on the work day and meal times in that country.

Tournament of Champions projections:
With a projected 68 regular-play games to go prior to the Tournament of Champions cutoff, after 500,000 simulations, our model shows:
An average of 2.2198 5+-time champions (standard deviation 1.1859).
An average of 3.8146 4+-time champions (standard deviation 1.4303).
An early cutoff took place 0.445% of the time (or a 5-game winner will be left out).
Emma Boettcher qualified 62.934% of the time.
Eric R. Backes qualified 82.031% of the time.
Anneke Garcia qualified 54.054% of the time.
Lindsey Shultz qualified 20.844% of the time.
Dave Leffler qualified 3.354% of the time.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Emma came blazing out of the gate with a James-like $11,400 after 14 clues on 11 correct.
- Emma is the first person in Jeopardy! history to defeat an ultra-champion (10 or more wins) and then win their next game.
- Emma is the 19th player since 2002 to win at least $70,000 over their first two wins on Jeopardy!
- Emma’s $14,200 after the Jeopardy! round is the 10th-highest in regular play since 2004 by anyone not named James Holzhauer or Ken Jennings.

Emma barely beat the curse of others beating a big champion. Matthew missing a DD allowed Emma to have a runaway game. She needed it because she missed the FJ clue and Matthew got it right.
Surprised none of the previous contestants to take down 10+ Day Champ have won their 2nd game. Glad Emma did. Makes her win v James more credible. Hope she continues to have a run of at least 5 games & makes TOC. Rematch of her & James in November would be great
Consider that beating one of the 10+ day champions means that you very likely just had an incredibly intense game. If that didn’t occur on a Friday show, you need to follow that mental tiring experience by playing your second game after a very short break. I don’t know how many of the 10+ streaks ended on a Friday show though.
wouldn’t it be cool if emma made it to TOC and James got a rematch against her? That is something that I would love to see
I’m shocked that a lot of people don’t want to watch Jeopardy! anymore because James got beat. I seem to think we’d want to see how Emma’s run goes and root for her to succeed like James did. And, of course we would like to see a rematch in the ToC.
Also, had Nate or Adam had one clue go their way a few matches ago, they’d be in the same boat as Emma right now.
Some 24 hours later, I can appreciate Emma’s victory over James and not overreact any longer to his defeat. I was puling for him to surpass Ken Jennings’ single-season money and Coryat records, but it was not to be. Emma looks as if she’s in for a solid run and, hopefully, a spot in the T o C. So mart and so young!
Speaking of which, I think it would be fair and elevate Jeopardy! if no one except five-time and up winners (except for the Teachers and College champs, of course) qualify for the next event. I know it’s asking a lot, and probably won’t happen (given the short amount of time left in the season), but it just seems as if so many four-time winners did not make the potential field that none should go. I know the tie-breaker is earnings, but still … I realize it’s difficult to win once on Jeopardy!, let alone multiple games, but four-time winners water down and cheapen the field to a certain extent. It’s like a .500 or less team making the NFL playoffs.
Woody, I was thinking the same thing. I fail to understand the sentiment that Jeopardy is not worth watching now that James lost. It reminds me of golf and how people will only tune in if Tiger Woods is involved. Obviously, they are not true fans of the game.
A brilliant performance by Emma again!
